I once wrote a magazine piece about space tourism, which has actually been in the works--if you can call something planned for a very indefinite future date--for some time.

Of course, there's big bucks to be had in ferrying people up, up, up and then--with any luck--bringing them back to earth. One unsolved problem: what would one eat up there? Answer--so far--you don't want to know. Space grub has to be light, packed small, pre-prepared and not overly seasoned, as the body can't handle spiciness in zero-gravity. Think airline food, but not as "tempting."

25 million is alot, but i think if I had the money i would do it too. Hopefully in my lifetime the average person will be able to afford travelling into space.

How awesome would that be though? Just to have the perspective, you know?

Yup, absolutely right, Marlene; now I DO recall that there was talk of "importing" spicy stuff to amp-up the space food. But apart from the issue of making plain food more palatable, I believe that one is liable to nasal congestion in space, which interferes with the ability to taste, so.....

Why does this story seem not so important to me? I'm into learning and info about outerspace. But it just rings of self importance for this guy. If he gets so much attention, why don't we divert that to the folks that went up and did not pay and sacrifed there life trying to do go on their mission?

$25 million and he still wound up with a case of the runs from the Russian 'cuisine'. Too funny.

25 million for a plane ride? I think what that money could have accomplished if given to feed, clothe and help educate the needy. Nothing like flaunting your wealth.

[Harbeas]... think what that money could have accomplished ...

Too bad the world's space programs never contribute anything useful... like studying crop production in adverse conditions, for example.

And, if you were extremely wealthy, you would just give it all to charity... ?
