April 22, 2007, 2:19 p.m."Nationwide, 28.3 percent of families are considered 'working poor.' "
You'd think that would be a huge voting bloc for politicians to go after...

April 22, 2007, 2:59 p.m.Well I'm thinking if we weren't paying the CEOs of companies multi-million dollar salaries and bonuses they might be able to pay the people who really do the work enough to be a living wage so they are not on the edge of starvation and bankruptcy.
I'm beginning to believe that being a Conservative means to conserve all the money for ones self. It certainly seems so in today's corporate world.

April 22, 2007, 4:14 p.m.While watching a t.v. show last evening I observed a lottery winner, who hit it for eighty five million. He says that his goal in life was now to become a billionaire. I guess this is the thought I desire all those who read this blog to acquire, greed not philanthropy is alive and well in America. The poor and destitute are to be shunned and blamed for their position. The elitist in America have a craving for more, enough is not enough but the craving for more is the norm.
I drove through Mississippi once and observed the poor, and that was many years ago. I guess making our American millionaires richer is a goal for the average American. Fact of life, the rich are getting richer and the poor and middleclass are becoming poorer. No, I am not begging for alms, I'm quite well off but the elitist who have a desire for more are quite despicable to myself.
God is awaiting his millions from you on your rise to heaven.

April 22, 2007, 4:31 p.m.The comment of the working poor being a huge voting block is valid except I think most of these people relize that the rich that run your country and ours don't care about them, and most of them are smart enough not to beleive the promises made by politicians. People who are having a hard time of it financialy are more concerened about keeping their jobs and just getting by and regardless what the rich think most poor people have honor and integrity qualities that few politicians have.

April 22, 2007, 6:45 p.m.I'm more for education but what would be the point if everything these days are being outsourced. The jobs are not being kept here in the U.S.A.. Maybe we should take the training and then move to another country. Now, thats a thought.

April 22, 2007, 7:31 p.m.It is strange that this country sees the "poor" as a family with only one car, two tv's, vcr, nintendo and a food budget that would feed a freakin village. We have no idea what poor really is, stop bitching about the min wage, or the kids that don't have thre bikes. This county offers more opportunity to those who seek it than any country in the world. With a high school degree, I have started 2 companies and am worth over 2 million. I also employ many people and the lowest pay is $17.00 per hour. I reward hard working people with good pay and benefits. I have had many employees who don't want to work, always call in sick, think they should get every holiday off with pay. We have a class of people in this country who think they are owed something, thanks welfare.

April 22, 2007, 11:16 p.m.It's tough to find that kind of employer Nelson. I've worked with 3 different employers and they are basically the same. They're only interested in money and more of it.

April 22, 2007, 11:43 p.m.Some of my fellow writers are missing the point. This country needs WORKING poor. Most of the poor (who are otherwise capable,) do not lift a finger for themselves. If all the poor were working, then wages (real wages) might start going up a little and Taxes ( if the spendalots would allow) could come down. (This of course would require the Fed. to refrain from raising interest rates at the first sign of wage rises) Some are greedy! they include all types of people. It is not really about left or right, it is about takers and the rest of us. Surely the sight of all those people in New Orleans, kept on Welfare for votes, show the real problems. Many came to Houston and actually went to work for the first time in their lives. Let us hold the government responsible for these types of abuses!! We work, so should they? Most of us are willing to put our hands in our pockets for REAL need. How about goverment not giving our money to any, but the truly deserving? Good luck in Mississippi.
