After years of standing empty, a new chapter is about to dawn for a Bauhaus-designed building in Berlin that was used by Hitler's Nazi Party and later as the East German Communist Party's headquarters.

Sounds like this is a huge investment in former East Berlin. That part of the city has faced massive decay of buildings and a lack of growth for over a decade. It is good to see people revitalizing this once prosperous part of the city.

What an interesting world. Who would have even dreamed of such an end for this building back when Nikita Khrushchev was pounding hos shoe heel on the desk at the UN?

After the city's reunification, it was legally returned to the Jewish family descendants of the original owners, scattered across the world, who finally managed to sell the property to a British investor. Well that's very nice to hear!!!

I am surprised such a huge building in Berlin wasn't in rubble. I wonder if there will be enough people who can afford

membership costs around 900 euros ($1,224) annually. WOW!

I am amazed that so many years later, this building stands. I too would have thought such a building would have been bombed during the war. So how is it that Germany has buildings that survived World War II and yet in the US we have schools that are maybe 30 years old, have never seen war, and are crumbling to the point of being torn down? School boards are paying millions to fix buildings that are not that old!

I've often wondered the same thing David!

back to Berlin tho...sure looked like that whole city was almost reduced to dust and rubble. Even the buildings left standing looked like they had lots of damage. Wow!! I guess that makes it even more special that it was left standing-for the original Jewish owners, even tho for a time, it was used by the Nazis.
