But Georgia is not dry. The south is humid and swampy.

I grew up in Georgia many years ago. The migration of the Ferrell-Hadley cell convergence to higher latitudes is definitely having an effect.

I live very close to where this is going on. There is one county between me and where this is going on (to the east). I woke up this morning to my whole area covered in thick smoke from this fire. We never recovered from the lack of rain last year. We are in a 6-9 inch deficent for rainfall so far this. We may be known for being swampy and humid but not right now.

The carribean is suffering from arid forest as well. Even in the dry season (Dec. -Mar.) it would rain enough to satuate the land and keep the fires at a minimum. Recently, rainfall has been very brief, that it is not enough to keep the dust down and plant life watered. When it does rain, it is a downpour for a few minutes which runs off and barely wets the ground.

Questionseverything....From my understanding we have over 80 counties from Ga, Fla, and I think Ala. helping to put the fire out. I will have to check and see what is happeing as far as federal goes. Seems like I remember hearing that the area will get federal aid once the fires are out but thats just off the top of my head. Last I heard tho its only about 50% contained. They talked a little about it yesterday on CNN.

Here is a local link with some info. also at the end of the article is more links:

"You all" can certainly have some of the rain from PA. Every three days it pours.

Is all of the south to experience the fate of New Orleans? This time at least Bush will have the excuse that he does not have the money. This would be true he ******ed it away in Iraq and some other pet projects.
