    The trope that universal ealthcare amounts to socialized medicine has been spouted for a while now, with no evidence to back it up. Here's a link to the Physicians for a National Health Program website, where one such plan is outlined, with details of why Giuliani's statement is either misinformed or disingenuous.

      "They're moving toward socialized medicine so fast, it'll make your head spin," Giuliani said, adding that private solutions could help bring down the cost of care. "When we want to cover poor people, as we should, we give them vouchers."

      It's not about covering just poor people; it's about covering EVERYONE. If Canada can do it, why not us? Middle-class citizens can have their entire savings wiped out by a catastrophic illness. Is that fair, or more to the point, moral?

      In fact, what these plans are is "single payer systems", not socialized medicine. Universal Health Care is NOT equal to socialized medicine. However, socialized medicine IS a form of universal health care.

      The people who fight against universal health care are usually those rich enough to not care about it, or those with plans from their jobs (and they should worry about having it taken away someday), and CORPORATIONS who make tons off the current system.
