Every now and then, the media highlights statements - even from high officials in Muslim or non-Muslim countries - criticizing hijab. Most of these statements attempt to cast doubt on the obligation of hijab upon Muslim women and to discredit its advocators.
At other times, it is niqab (face veil) that surfaces, and the question here arises whether it is an obstacle to Muslims' integration in their respective non-Muslim societies.
This folder presents different juristic aspects related to hijab and niqab. In so doing, it answers questions such as these: Is hijab optional for a Muslim woman? What is hijab and what is not? What is the real stance of Islam on niqab? And when there are attempts to ban hijab, what should Muslims do?

April 27, 2007, 1:32 p.m.EvelinVT: Thanx 4 the voice against filthy nudity. We have become a nation of voyeurs & have perverted the purity of true Christian values. Modesty means nothing today. Although my son isn't a prude, has a 3rd degree black belt, lifts heavy iron at his work, he turns off the nudity that happens on TV. I am proud to have him as a deacon in our church. -Rev. S

April 27, 2007, 4:07 p.m.dang! you are in big trouble with the "beautiful people" they all appear to believe nudity is "art" and therefore, it's ok to run around naked on the beaches and our public street's. it would be truely wonderful to see morality and responsibilty returned to the U.S. culture.

April 27, 2007, 4:43 p.m.um...why was this posted?
It's not even an article, just a picture.
While thong bikini bottoms may be going to far, at least the woman can stay afloat while wearing that.
The 1890s "swimsuit" is more appropriately called a sink-suit.
My sources say the damn things weighed like 30lbs once they got wet, kind of upsets your bouyancy when the average woman only has like 20lbs of bouyant force.
So while the modern swimsuit may be immodest, it is sure a lot more practical for going into the water.

April 27, 2007, 4:58 p.m.Silverghost and ballbuster2:
I was beginning to think I was the only one who noticed the fact that there are absolutely NO morals left in the US. It's almost considered bad to have some morals!!!!! I look around at the kids today and what they look at and are exposed to and I am truly worried about the future!! I am still young (well, kindof... just turned the big 30) but I don't know what happened with the youth??????????????
I only hope that sometime in the near future we all will be able to get back to morals... you don't have to be christian to have morals either... it's really common sense, ya know.. not immediate self gratification that is promoted now.

April 27, 2007, 6 p.m.There seems to be a lot of people posting here that would love to have women in burquas. Who are you to be the moral police for another person? I love it that other people think they have some sort of right to tell another person how to live. Instead of worrying about what someone else is doing, why not worry about yourself.

April 27, 2007, 8:12 p.m.Feh. Dudes, please learn how a gentleman must dress. Anything less is immoral and scandalous!
http://www.gentlemansemporium.com/victorian-clo...
"In the Victorian era, daily dress was much more formal than it is today. Unless they were a workman or laborer, every gentleman was expected to wear a coat, vest, and hat. To walk around in shirtsleeves without vest or coat would be the modern-day equivalent of traipsing about in one's underwear. Very unseemly, and most ungentlemanly!"

April 27, 2007, 9:08 p.m.Um, a lot has changed since the 1890's, so this article is basically taking up space. Swimsuits are made out of lightweight material and come in all styles and colors. Yeah, there are way too many skimpy ones out there, but it takes an individual to actually purchase it and put it on, and heaven knows that MOST women in the US shouldnt be seen in a 2 piece.
