tehranchik, thanks for submitting this article. As I was pondering these issues a couple of quotes come to mind.

"Democracy don't rule the world, You'd better get that in your head; This world is ruled by violence, But I guess that's better left unsaid."

    Bob Dylan

"We fear violence less than our own feelings. Personal, private, solitary pain is more terrifying than what anyone else can inflict."

    Jim Morrison

"When liberty comes with hands dabbled in blood it is hard to shake hands with her."

    Oscar Wilde

One resident alien killed 32 Americans in one day. That event was so unusual that it became the focus of our news coverage.

One Iraqi kills as many or more Iraqis every day. These events get repeated by our media, but do not become the focal point of their coverage, because Iraqis killing other Iraqis has become a "normal" state of affairs.

Many Americans who have come to support withdrawal from Iraq now do so because they have concluded that the Iraqi people are so barbarous that they are beyond help. Perhaps we should just get out of the way and let them murder each other with impunity.
