The United States: Gun Violence Capital of the World »

Posted by: TechnologyExpert 2 years, 6 months ago

Since 1999 when the US experienced a 30 year low in violent crime, most US cities have experienced a dramatic increase in gun violence. The difference between then and now is that the gun lobby now dictates national gun policy, and the deadly trend will continue until the President and Congress enact effective uniform national gun laws that ...

... address the unrestricted private sale of guns, including at 5,000 gun shows without even a criminal background check, support rather than restrict law enforcement, and confront race, poverty and the lack of economic opportunity in our poorest neighborhoods.

"Given the virtually unregulated access to guns in the US"

When you start off with a lie like this, there's only one way to go - downhill.

This will work. We just need to convince all criminals to go through the proper channels when obtaining a firearm. Not just buy them illegally or steal them. Otherwise, the average citizen protecting their home will be the only ones affected by stricter gun laws.

The other day I was watching a show about gun control, after the VT killings, it was talking about the UK, they had a school killing, 16 dead I think it was in '96. It went on to say that Blair was using gun control as a platform while running for office. He won, guns were banned and there has never been another school shooting there. They went on to say that gun violence had INCREASED there, gun control and yet an increase...maybe no school shootings, maybe no one had an interest or derangement to do so. BUT, gun control didn't stop anything else, it doesn't work.

I'm really tired of hearing about gun control. We're never going to get rid of guns in the USA, it's a part of the culture. The best efforts we can make would be to try and keep them out of the hands of criminals. That's something everyone can agree on, although if regular people can get guns, criminals will always be able to as well.

These statistics will get a lot worse when the revolution against corporate America begins.

Let us please put our individual chance of being murdered by firearm into perspective.

Acording to Nationmaster.com stats your chance of being murdered by gun is 0.000042 per million, being killed by a dog 0.0879 per million.

To set the record straight we rank 24th in the world not #1.

Maybe we should instead be talking about eliminating dogs from our country, after all they are about 8000 times more dangerous.

I have never purchased a gun and I never will. The problem with them is the false sense of security and over blown sense of self import that comes along with owning a firearm. How many times in the discussion about the school shootings did you hear someone say that if they had been there with their gun, that guy wouldn't have killed so many people. The truth of the matter is, someone there had a gun, I'm sure. There was a security guard somewhere on that campus and still nothing changed what went on. Guns don't kill people. Idiots with guns kill people.

Unfortunately the only one with a gun was the perpetrator, in the "gun free zone".
