Yet another shooting in a 'gun free zone'.

I see a parallel to 'free spech zones'.

I don't think anybody is blaming the guns for the brutality of any of the recent killings, just for the efficiency.

Makes you wonder if anyone was there who normally packed heat when not in a gun free zone?

By the way, since it was a gun free zone, why didn't the shooter leave his gun in the car?

So, what Bush and Laura going to do?. Go to Kansas and give lecture about constitutional right to buy guns and shoot in public places?. What a pathetic country.

And the reporter whips it into a frenzy again. The police said it was a long gun, so it was either an assult rifle or shotgun. I think the reporter is trying to build things into the story instead of just reporting the facts.

Yeah right. It worked so well in the wild west, surely it'll be great this days--especially for sackless wimps that can't back up what they lay down.

The absolute fact is, what difference does it make if it's against the law to CCW? Anyone can carry a gun, whether it's illegal or not--so what's stopping you? Fear? Funny how people like you are afraid to break a simple CCW law, which, if you get caught, costs you a couple hundred bucks and you may lose your gun... seems like taking that chance is a small price to pay, given the chance that alternatively you may get your big chance to be a hero and blaze away at the mall gunning down lunatics.

Yeah lets keep making those guns because people kill people. This is not even a sane argument. Guns begat guns begat guns and forever more there will be large numbers of deaths that should have and would have never happened. I dont understand why people (being the perfect creatures that we are) dont get that. JEEZ!

"Police said the mall shooter used "a long gun" and would not clarify whether it was an assault rifle or shotgun."

I guess the reporter for CNN thinks there are only two types of long guns, that being "assault rifles" and shotguns. It just shows how little reporters know ... or how closed minded they are

hello im new on netscape. as you can tell from my name im irish. well northern irish (UK) from belfast. netscape has been my default page for about a year and iv always been reading these stories of tihngs happening in america then casualy reading the silly arguments. but i hav to ask why are guns legal in america. i know its in your constitution that you have the right to bare arms. but whoever decided that is just being rediculous. the thought that in america anyone could be walking around with a tool specifically designed to efficiently kill people is scarey. i mean humans often act irrationaly and idiocly when angered.im not saying if guns were illegal there would be no murder, just people would lack the means to easily do it. i dont know if carrying a blade is legal in america, but you cant really go on a killing spree with a swiss army knife. someone would just knock your ballix in.

If you really need to be afraid of something, motor vehicles are the #1 cause of accidental death, consistently 40,000/year and up.

                                  Heart disease kills 600,000.

Firearms? 1500/year. 3300/year die of suffocation, mostly by choking on food. You are about as likely to choke to death on that chicken bone as to shoot yourself or someone else.

your government really needs to get its act together. my girlfriends dad said to me tonite " i dont like american music, americans and their music are full of s**t" . his views are generated from these rediculous stories we hear on the news every week. all these awful things happening and stupid f'ing overly patriotic americans going on about their "rights". they need to put a sock in it. your beautiful countries name is dragged threw the dirt every morning on the news. sort it out georgey boy. someone better sort it out or american will continue to look like an embarassing joke of a nation. they need to start with getting an intelligent president. i actually met george bush on his visit to belfast, at an event he was invited to. i honestly have never seen a more detatched idiot in my life. it was like saying hello to a brick with a stupid smile and s**t for brains. your leadership is the source of all problems.

You do realize that there have only been 6 mass shootings (defined as 10 or more killed) in the United States in the last 40 years? (You can add a seventh if you go back 41 years and add in the Charles Whitman tower shootings, but Texas was a blue state back then.)

Of the 6, 3 happened in Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida; clearly red states. The other two happened in Georgia (which is a patchwork red and blue state that currently leans red), Colorado (ditto), and California (fairly blue even if they have a red governor).

Of course, since there are 44 states that have not had a mass shooting in the last 40 years, I'd say the data is pretty sketchy.

Incidently, in that same span of time, there were also mass shootings in Germany, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and 2 in the UK. Deduce from that whatever you will.

Well, most gun deaths comes from blue area. 3300 americans die a year from guns death. Most of them is from Los Angles (drive by shooting) and is a blue area. New York, Detroit, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Wash. D.C. highest crime rate in the world is all gun control cities and blue area. Hmmm I wonder about that?
