"I never caused a riot before for winning - well, maybe once or twice," Gordon laughed.

It was the same reaction he received last week in Phoenix when he tied Earnhardt's mark and flew a No. 3 flag on his victory lap. That gesture didn't sit well with Earnhardt fans, even though Dale Earnhardt Jr. called the tribute classy and urged his "Red Army" of supporters to stop throwing beer cans out of safety concerns.

If you worried about ratings before, what is the sight of a bunch of yahoo's chunking beer cans at Gordon going to do for the popularity of NASCAR? These people are completely brainless...

I'm not the biggest Nascar fan in the world, though my favorite driver used to be Earnhardt Sr.

The only thing I can figure is that Jeff Gordon is the Tom Cruise of Nascar. You have to admit they have -some talent- and knowhow... but it's tainted by their constant ego.

Everyone loves a winner, but we want a humble one. I suppose even I can't explain my disdain for him. :x

Let me sum it up for ya, Earnhardt represented the average joe who was always being put down. He worked his butt off and became one of the best that his sport has ever seen. He put fear into the hearts of the other drivers because he was so driven to win. He was a risk taker to the extreme.

Little Jeffy is hated by the average Nascar fan because he is from California and grew up raising gocarts. They don't think he's paid his dues. They just ignore his successes with Nascar and say he does not belong there. He's little, cocky and speaks the King's English...more reason they don't like him.

I'm from Alabama, I understand these people. However, throwing liquer bottles and beer bottles at Little Jeffy (that's what they call him) is inexcusable and just plain red-neck.

Did anyone happen to see the Busch race on Sat. where Stewart caused the other guy (his name fails me right now)to flip....then the very next day, he has a wreck at the end of the race and gets out of his car all steaming mad?? What a wus!

ok im gonna start off with gordon. i hate him more than you can imagine but still.... he showed alot of respect to dale sr. when he tied the record so you gotta show the man some respect, even tho if dale sr. was still alive he would still be winning races and gordon wouldnt even be close to catching him, therefore, in my opinion gordon will never be able to be properly matched up with dale sr. Dale sr. will always be the better driver because he represented the working man, with an additude and a chip on his shoulder. thats why we loved him... and stewart being a wus kriicket??? stewart was trying to give his buddy Dale Jr. some help and push him to the front to defend his dads record and then some guy slams stewart causing the caution to come out and gordon to win by defalt. id be ******ed as hell too.

im no gorden fan by any means--it makes my day when he slaps the wall--and i wasnt a dale sr fan either..i never liked that style of driving in nascar or anywhere--same with senna..out of way and if i cant win we all crash--but i have been a race fan since you sat on the hillside at bristol..and the bottle throwing this week was just totally disgracefull--and gave the people on the east and left coast who dont get nascar at all another reason to think we are all a bunch of deliverance shine drinking morons

When I was sixteen I used to drink beer and pee behind the stands and I thought NASCAR was cool.

Strange things happened. I grew up, but NASCAR didn't. The marketable "personalities" on the circuit resemble nothing so much as pro wrestlers with training wheels.

I think that some of the animosity aimed at Gordon is because he still has his teeth.

I can't wait for the response to this post but it will be fun but it is the truth and here goes. I've been a fan of Gordon since he was in Busch in the Baby Ruth # 1 car. He was a very young guy at the time and was winning alot then he came to Winston Cup and after some breaking in time he started winning like a wild fire. He is the best that there has been for a long time. Just look at his age and all that he has accomplished in that time frame. Lets not forget at how much better competition there is now days oppossed to when Earnhardt was in his hayday. There is 15 or so more drivers that can win anytime today where there was just 5 or 6 able to win then. Also Jeff has how many years to be the same age as when Earnhardt died. Jeff can win at alot of different types of tracks where Earnhardt was known for Daytona and Talledega type of tracks. He is clean driver and Earnhardt was a little ragged hence the Intimidater monicur. He will be another Petty by the end of his career.
