May 1, 2007, 10:51 a.m.Could this be the Smoking Gun? It has to be out there. What greater issue could there be in Washington than whether we went to war with manipulated evidence? It would invalidate any credibility the neo-cons still kling to.

May 1, 2007, 1:44 p.m.since this whole Iraq mess began, I've been amazed at how little interest this forged document has been given.
the Bush Administration has totally ignored it.
the mythical "liberal media" has ignored it.
and its most likely the key to unraveling the Bush Administration's entire ball of lies.

May 1, 2007, 3:50 p.m.Ray McGovern also made a reference to the "Downing Memo"
and when you put those 2 facts together you have to ask why there is not an investigation into the Niger forgeries.
The fix was in!

May 1, 2007, 10:57 p.m.About the Niger story ... The director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (I think that is the name) said awhile ago that when he and his staff first saw the memo they decided within a half hour that it was false and that anyone who knew anything about Niger and their operations would know it immediately. Niger didn't use such stationary. They didn't have such a ministry. None of the people identified were known in the goverment. The memo referred to a constitution that was at least 20 years void. The French control the production and handling of yellow cake in Niger. In other words, it was as if Cheney had passed a three dollar bill, in day glow orange, raspberry and green, with Daffy Duck featured. And the President and the Secretary of the Treasury and the VP and everyone else all saying how they thought it was a genuine treasury note.
And the media all accepting and repeating the story without any question.
