The Rise & Fall of America's Political Right »
Posted by: Radiofreeeuropa 2 years, 6 months agoThey were a new force. They believed completely in their cause and that they should have power. They arrived cloaked in old familiar and reassuring rhetoric, so they encountered little resistance, and conquered rapidly and thoroughly. What is astonishing is how rapidly their ideas are being revealed as bankrupt. oped

May 1, 2007, 3:23 a.m.Every single tactic used by these people goes back to the early days of the cold war, which was created by the pentagon brass and the war industries to ensure their survival in the face of post-WWII peace and disarmament. by the end of the 40's, they had convinced millions of clueless americans that the New Deal as well as western europe-style democratic socialism were fronts for Moscow. They claimed that we had to protect the "secret" of nuclear weapons when the scientists who built told the government that the only secret they had was that the bomb worked, and the whole world knew as soon as Hiroshima When we were developing the H-bomb, after Stalin exploded his first A-bomb, the Russians tested one first, and our analysis of the fallout from that test helped solve one final issue dogging our own H-bomb development. In 1946 it was clear to educated people that we were being taken over by Nazis, now it should be clear to all. There's nothing new about neo-cons

May 1, 2007, 8:48 a.m.When you do the same thing over and over again and keep getting the same results, that should tell you something. You should not expect different results from all the other times you tried it. To do so, has been called insanity.
This administration tells the same lies over and over again. They use the bully pulpit to spread fear thickly to get the masses to follow them. They say stupid things like, "if we don't defeat them over there, they will follow us here." What BS! What tripe!
They have lost the faith of most of the American public and deservedly so. If the Republicans want to get elected to anything they should probably consider starting a new party and leave the neocons behind.

May 1, 2007, 8:58 a.m.Yoy need a third or fourth party.Your politics are two dimensional resulting in black and white issues. If a party is elected but needs the support of another party to get things done, usually this is accomplished with a give and take idea so you get a mix.It can cover alot of grey areas.

May 1, 2007, 11:13 p.m.So why don't American Democrats support the democrats in Iraq?
I'll believe in liberalism when I see some.

May 1, 2007, 9:22 a.m.To be honest[no laughing]Neocon was a term I first heard here on NS. I've posted before that I really don't watch TV, other than some local news, and have relied on my news mostly from typed sources and word of mouth. By picking and choosing what news I have read previously to joining NS, meaning I tried to read news without the "flash" or "spin", I've seemed to miss these newish political terms. Which as far as I can see are used as insults, these days. So upon looking up those terms that I've now read, on definition, most of them really don't sound all that bad.

May 1, 2007, 4:41 p.m.Kel, people will have to take to the streets en masse to even begin a return to government by the people. If you haven't noticed, Americans are too fat, dumb and televisioned to assume their role in civics. The corporations won. I don't like it, but I believe it.

May 1, 2007, 11:36 a.m.Maybe a 2008 reality if the war is still going on. The public's support for the war has clearly been inversely proportional to its' duration.

May 1, 2007, 1:33 p.m.It's already happened, Mr 28%. Bush has taken you guys down.
Guiliani ain't RIGHT.
Romney is from Massachusetts, and a flip flopper.
McCain is hated by the RIGHT.
Freddy? Guiliani is a pit bull, He won't let the celebrity candidate walk away with his prize.
So, the GOP is already trending away from the cons. All the cons have left is to vent on the internet.
At least you have that outlet, and you can thank Al Gore for that.

May 1, 2007, 10:37 a.m.The defrauding of the American people by the radical Right could never have been accomplished without a suppliant media. The brain-dead corporate media amnesia industry continues to deceive the nation and suppress journalism - as Bill Moyer's recent documentary makes evident.
This is what happens when you have corporate monopolistic control of the media and government merging with elite corporate interests - that is essentially the whole story of the Rightwing fascist dystopia. Sadly, we're just seeing the tip of the iceberg. We haven't yet experienced the full impact of the economic stress this incompetent and arrogant regime has inflicted on the nation, nor the blowback from its disastrous foreign policy ... or the decay of our Constitution.
This era will be looked upon as the beginning of America's nightmare years.

May 1, 2007, 11:09 a.m.The only thing these guys are good at is tapping the emotionalism of the American voter. Abortion (with pictures), gay rights (linking homosexual people to pedophilia, saying they'll destroy marriages, etc.) coming up with negative phrases (flip flopper, un-American, commie, and so on) to smear their political enemies & use fear of an enemy no one can see. Once that succeeds, they're like kids in a candy store. They steal, lie, divide, break the laws of our Constitution to an unprecedented extent. That's where 'stupid' comes in. Did they think no one would notice? They're like the little kid who thinks if he shuts his eyes, he's invisible.

May 1, 2007, 11:56 a.m.Let's not forget the Right Wing Nut Christians infiltrating the U.S. Government thanks to George Bush. I can just imagine a High Level Cabinet meeting these days, "Good Morning Brother, saw an Angel flying past my MBZ on the Toll Road an hour ago. My niece just gave birth to a wonderful little boy. Virgin Birth it was. Oh yes, and Uncle Jake rose from the dead last month and was looking pretty good at dinner last evening."

May 1, 2007, 1:16 p.m.Nobody said down with religion. I say down with the rich, elitist explotation of religion to manipulate the unsophisicated, uneducated masses.

May 1, 2007, 12:34 p.m.Last time I check the media was all left wing. Remember the 2000 election claiming that Al Gore won Florida early in the race, not to mention, ABC, nbc, etc, all left wing supporters
As far as stealing lying and cheating have you guys forgotten the 90"s. You have slick Willy telling the American people" I did not have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky". Then you have the democrats basically giving Bill a pardon during the impeachment proceedings and don't forget Sandy Berger stealing classified documents.
If that's the beacon of honestly and morality the left has, I'll pass.

May 1, 2007, 12:34 p.m.I think Bush, Cheney, and Rove's thinking is exactly the same as Osama Bin Laden's and the Islamic fundametalist movement. The only difference is Bush is coming from a Christian point of view. Both nuts though if you ask me. The phrase" the inmates are running the asylum" definately applies here.

May 1, 2007, 1:56 p.m.If the left only had the common sense to be pro-gun, they would win much greater victories against the right.
I know many who refuse to vote for many Democrats simply because of their asinine gun-banning policies. Despite the fact that voting Republican hurts them in other areas.

May 1, 2007, 1:57 p.m.Oh how U wishful thinkers think! I remember when people thought this way 12 years ago when we booted most of the dumbocrats out. May 1, 2007, 1:59 p.m.Well, I guess just count us out then; you've won and the country wants to put itself in the hands of liberals.
It wants to do what Kennedy, Schummer, Pelosi, Reid, Rangel and Boxer thinks we should do.
Just ignore us in 2008 ... we don't have a chance.
