Posted by: Karina 2 years, 7 months agoDon Imus, the tousled and acerbic radio host whose racial remarks engendered a media storm that triggered a swift upending of his career, is not going away quietly even if the imbroglio has all but disappeared from the national conversation in the wake of the Virginia Tech massacre.

May 2, 2007, 2:38 p.m.Imus is no more a racist than Al Sharpton or Jessie Jackson. Even though the airwaves are highly regulated by the FCC, the FCC already commented that he didn't violate any of their regulations. Come on Imus, sue the crap out of MSMBC and CBS. I hope you take them to the cleaners!!!!!

May 2, 2007, 3 p.m.I said the same thing a while back. If you hire a DJ to be edgy, you can't fire him if he didn't break any laws. The man had just signed a $50 million contract. I hope he gets at least half of it.

May 2, 2007, 3:03 p.m.This deal didn't have anything to do with the fact that Imus made a comment, and he is white, that many blacks make many times a day with no concern about backlash did it? Just another little thing to give the Justice Brothers (Sharpton & Jackson) something to keep them busy.
BTW why are those two not marching in front of the offices of the Record Companies and their exec offices demanding they quit promoting Rap & HipHop, which does far more damage that a single comment by Imus.
No double standards here are there? LOL

May 2, 2007, 3:18 p.m.Once again, the first thing these lawyer hating, frivolous lawsuit despising conservatives do, is HIRE A LAWYER & SUE. The Liberals have scored another convert. First Rush, and now Imus.

May 2, 2007, 3:27 p.m.Well ole boy's law suit will not result in any tort being found. Media giants can fire based on their P/R standards or even a change in company direction based again on subjective standards. I have only viewed his show a short few times and I am an African American who has worked Black Media. I think the bigger issue here is and beyond non-African Americans understanding about Rappers who say deplorable things or other Blacks who say the same on the Comedy Channel for ratings and such... is; negitive jokes or descriptive language that relates to sexual undertones for students at a major mainstream University should not be air on primetime and at some point the FCC has told us this. Now this was just the straw that is breaking the camels back for Imus. Also yes its not mandatory that we Americans like each other or appreciate our differences as humans. Moreover each history racially speaking is different yet diversity exposure will help those blinded by narcissism develop empathy.

May 2, 2007, 3:29 p.m.has anyone seem the screming liberal waste of air time that PMSNBC has put up in the am. Some ranting cranky Liberal chick with an IMUS wannabe round table, it is a joke. Look for IMUS on FOX between 6am and 9am, and syndicated by westwoodone. I hope he gets all 50 million.

May 2, 2007, 4:35 p.m.Way to Go Imus I hope you sue their a$$ off - they hired you knowing what you do & as soon as REV & REV found an opportunity to pounce & make themselves more self righteous they did & CBS & MSNBC folded.I hope they pay heavily for their act of cowardice & avarice

May 2, 2007, 5:01 p.m.I've read that Media Matters had a huge role in Imus' firing. I find it odd that they hop on him over "nappy headed ho's" a day after he calls Hillary Clinton "satan" and a "fat, ugly, she devil".
I think Imus may be just a casuality of Hilldogs thought police.

May 2, 2007, 5:09 p.m.I don't know what the terms of his contract may be, but unless there is something in there that allows him to be fired simply for causing a liberal media storm, I'd have to say I think he has a pretty good 1st amendment case. Particularly since the FCC didn't even fine him. At least, I didn't hear about any fines. Anybody know otherwise? The main problem, of course, was the sponsor bailout. If the sponsors hadn't caved in to the liberal whining, he'd never have been canned.

May 2, 2007, 6:41 p.m.With a little help from Calypso Louie Farrakhan. He called us white devils. Can we get him canned too?

May 2, 2007, 6:17 p.m.I don't really care about Imus. I've found what he said and other comments from him over the years in very poor taste. I was not at all surprised at his firing. And now he wants $40 million? Jeez, is he really worth that much? Many people do a better job than he has over the years, but they have not been lucky enough to find widespread syndication and they are willing to work for much less money. Indeed, Imus has millions in the bank now.
Give me a break! I don't feel sorry for Imus.

May 2, 2007, 6:24 p.m.Big business actually follow the terms of contracts? Usually, they use their power and deep pockets to win cases. I am sure the lawyers for CBS will file one motion after another. Hopefully, Imus has the money to return the fight.

May 2, 2007, 6:50 p.m.hey ace, no kidding. Anything is better than the crap I saw this morning. It's as bad as air america and we all where that went. I never said IMUS wasn't a Liberal, I just said the line up of wannabees is a joke, from the MSNBC morning gig, to Bannacle's new line up of old IMAN favorites. IMUS was hesterical and his show allthough liberal, at least made fun of them and everyone else.

May 2, 2007, 7:09 p.m.Go get um I-man,show them idiots who the man really is,then if that doesn't work just buy the stupid network,if you have any money left.Back to B. Obama for a second when he was calling for your firing, who cares what this idiot thinks,I'm from Illinois and every person that I talk with says they'll turn republican before they would vote for Barrack Osama Obama.

May 2, 2007, 7:20 p.m.I never had even heard of Imus until this incident and now I can't seem to get away from it. And ya'll need to stop using bad language in your comments. Adding symbols instead of letters is not genius, it is still just as offensive as actually writing the words out, and they aren't even needed.

May 2, 2007, 7:33 p.m.Imus should be rehired, get all of his 40/50 million up front and THEN be fired and fined for all of his earnings. He should be forced to work days in a black beauty parlor and be dressed down by the older sistas for his "Nappy" comments. His nights would be working the streets of Newark selling his wares. The proceeds from the fine should go towards paying for hair weaves for anyone who wants them; this includes Al, Jesse, Barak, Rove, and Cheney.

May 2, 2007, 7:47 p.m.Scott 4261....Why is Imus worth $40 million.That's what's left
on the contract that Imus and MSNBC or the parent company NBC
AGREED to when Imus signed the contract.....They are going to have to pay him something.I hope he gets all of it plus damages if I had my way.Oh and I'm really not that big a fan of his but they went way overboard firing him.
-

THOMNH62
May 2, 2007, 8:59 p.m.the reason he was paid so much was because of the advertising dollars that he brought to the network and cbs radio. He had over 3 million listeners daily and over 500,000 tv viewers, PMSMNBC carried his radio show live and beat every morning cable show except fox. Oh and ListenUp, if you thinkk he should be fined then I gues your ok with fining all the pro ball players, rappers and MTV wannabees who use the same language daily. Go back to bed.

May 2, 2007, 9:59 p.m.Racism will always be around. Only difference is that it wont be in-your-face as in the past, but it'll still exist. Imus made his comment racially charged by statin"nappy headed"...this was an attack on black people since they are presumed to be 'nappy headed'. I read the transcripts of the show, and in my opinion, his producer of the show said worst statements. Howard Stern says worst things, but thing is that Imus is viewed as a pompous old school cowboy who is just being racist with his comments, unlike Howard who pokes fun at himself and everyone else. Plus Howard has Robin on his show, which makes things better. But I digress- Imus needed to be punished, but I dont think fired. And I agree with some on here- EVERYONE TO SOME DEGREE IS A RACIST~

May 2, 2007, 10:03 p.m.I think Imus is a total waste, however, he should not have been fired for his remarks. How do you justify firing him when you have the rap musicians(?) saying far worse and they are making millions from it with no censorship in sight.
