May 3, 2007, 8:16 a.m.Great article! India can now move away from the use of kerosene ad into solar. I wish the technology could be brought home, though. I have asked our mayor to please start a low income housing project and use solar as the main source of energy. We have architects at a local university that could design it. (Everything takes money, though!)
Politics power progress!
but, on a personal level, here is a company who has been around for many years and appeals to mainstream america. you can at least power your water heater by solar. or, how about your pool heater? outdoor lighting...the possibilities are infinite: www.realgoods.com

..we all have to make adjustments with what's available in our areas. I invested in a company who is developing a film over windows to generate electricity.
XSNX is the symbol. look it up and read their articles. this product would do very well here. we have these huge buildings that are all glass. they could generate their ac system at best!!
but, really, for a sun-drenched city, a huge area is available to absorb the rays on photovaltaic material to generate supplemental power!

May 3, 2007, 9:32 a.m.The development and replacement of oil based energy sources for alternatives is advancing rapidly in many developing countries.
Solar cells are still expensive and inefficient.
At this moment I am visiting S.America. For my surprise in some areas, nearly 100% of taxi cabs and 25% or more of buses are running on natural gas.
Mixes of alcohol with gasoline are mandatory in cities of more than 500.000 inhabitants. Biodiesel based on Castor oil is underway.
Since the Castor oil plants have toxic elements for insects and nematodes, interspersing those with other crops diminish contamination of the environment with pesticides.
I hope after renewal of the White House team, the new one will be more inclined to promote a green planet.

we have the technology. isn't the space station run on solar power? i mean, if we got creative as a nation, we could become more results-oriented and reap many benefits!

If they can not steal enough in one term--tough...

May 3, 2007, 11:54 a.m.Well that is wonderful. What about doing the same thing for the people in country? While we're at it, lets feed the hungry kids in America and let's take care of the homeless problem here. Oh and what about medical care. I think we should take care of us first. I know people that have to make a choice every month pay power bill or buy food. No power can't cook the food. Charity does start at home, but you can't blame it all on the politicians, after all we elected them. The only way any thing is going to change is for Americans to say enough. We need to help our own first. That will never happen.

It is my understanding that Belgium is recycling all batteries. it's amazing that they figured the process out. But not in my city! we need more years of study and technology.
