This religion is so violent. I certainly can't rationalize a person losing their life over this.

Before we get all arrogant and supercilious, we need to remember that it was less than one hundred years ago we beat, tortured and imprisoned women in the US and UK for asserting their demands for equal rights and equal justice. Women were beaten, raped, imprisoned in filthy conditions when they worked for suffragette organizations, and then when released from jail, they were turned over to husbands and fathers who beat them again for the "shame" they brought upon their families. Hundreds underwent hunger strikes both in and out of prison and then they were held down, force fed and chained in miserable mental health hospitals. How soon we forget. No one today really remembers the suffragettes that gave their lives for equality, and we often think we are so superior to other developing cultures, but we're not. We all need to work together as a world community to eliminate sexism, intolerance, cruelty and barbaric punishments.

before we invaded marriages among folks of different faiths was quite common in iraq. we turned iraq from a secular country into a islamic fundamentalist theocracy. spreading freedom and making friends is what we do.

"Before, for every 50 marriages there were 20 between Shia men and Sunni girls," said Mr al-Musawi, a Shia imam who has officiated over weddings for more than 20 years. "Now the Shia men who come here nearly always marry Shia women, Perhaps only one marriage in 50 is mixed."

if anyone bothered to read the story -

Some reports suggested she had converted to Islam to be closer to her boyfriend.

It appears that she was not Muslim , but of a Kurdish sect.

Strict fundemental adherance to the tenets of any religion could lead to occurrances such as this

Just look south. Plenty of black boys/men are *still* to this day killed for even looking at a white woman, much less trying to date one. Maybe we should invade the south, bomb them and kill hundreds of thousands of innocents in the process while trying to force our political system on their society.

While we are on the subject, people are killed daily for being gay, for being women, for being Kurdish, Islam, Christian, or for a variety of other reasons. Humans kill one another in the name of honor, religion and so many other ridiculous reasons. Can anyone tell me why it is logical to kill another human for any reason? Leave out examples like Hitler and Stalin. I am speaking predominately of contemporary people.

i would be tortured to death if i was a girl over there..that's for damn sure. things like this happen everyday in other countries, and when someone gets raped or killed in the U.S., people blow it up. we sat here and talked about virginia tech for weeks, and tomorrow this will just be something people will forget about. as koranagirl said, our people treated women the same way not even 100 years ago..same thing for blacks. these countries view women as dirt, and they are not going to change their opinion...and if f u c k i n g George W. Bush thinks he can change that, he's out of his damn mind..we cannot force iraq to change their ways, THEY have to WANT to change their ways to do so...

The world is changing, and some people don't want to change with it. People over here don't want to acknowledge that the new rising stars are India and China, not America, so they cling to old ideals (women at home with the babies, education bad) hoping that the "bad stuff" will go away if they just rewind society to a "better time," (better for whom?) Same with the people in the story. Their world is changing too, though it's doubtful that this sort of thing is "new," we're just aware of it now because of better modes of information, and a desire by people to see the "bad stuff those guys over there are doing." We don't hear much about the conflicts in Darfur, nor about the hundreds of thousands of dead. We don't hear about those women being raped and butchered in that conflict, for example. Ask the average American citizen what Darfur is about, and they'll blink at you in confusion.

"Reports from Iraq said a local security force witnessed the incident, but did nothing to try to stop it. "

--- I think this is what scares me the most. How can grown men stand there and watch a 17 yo little girl get stoned to death by 8-9 other men! Yeah, that was real fair!!

By the way, I understand what was said about our suffragettes about how we have our dirty history too!!! But this girl wasn't fighting for rights, she was seeing a boy from a different religion??!!! SHE WAS 17!! If they still do stonings over there, is eye for an eye still held as law?

Changing any thing in the middle east is going to take a few generations the same as it did in Ireland, not until you can get to the children and teach them to have an open mind about religion and humanity, There is never going to be change. Taking Sadam out of power was just a small tip of the ice burg. But i think this is going to take much longer because those on the modern world cant get along, long enough to agree that maybe some thing good will come from this action, war or conflict. what ever you choose to call it. Before good can be seen by an outsider there has to be a unified stance seen by those that are new to what they are seeing, not as much conflict and disagreement as the world they are in already. But that is just my view.

More proof positive that the seventh century murder cult of Islam must be stopped. How Ironic and troubling this story must be to todays leftist terror tubbies in the States. All Awash with enemy spin and propaganda when the true barbarism of the "one man sham that is Islam" surfaces yet again. Oh sad day for the politically correct American hate mongers and their supposed religion of piece. All of you who oppose the war by aiding and abetting our enemies every day...this story is for you. And damn of all damnables if that little problem called reality isn't back on your doorstep staring right into your beady little eyes.

Stop Islam now; end the oppression and seventh century barbarism... by any means necessary.
