May 6, 2007, 7:37 p.m.Gonna be lots of social unrest with this guy now. He'll have to break the backs of the unions to get what he wants to get done.Scores of confrontations with immigrants on the horizon too.

May 6, 2007, 9:09 p.m.Viva la France, Now send in troops to pacify Iraq. With the French, victory is at hand. Now Sarkozy can emulate Bush and become his own legend for posterity within France.
Conservative will rule the roost until they go just so far.
Then their heads will roll figuretively.
The French Foreign Legion will again prevail as in Dien Bien Phu.

May 6, 2007, 10:55 p.m.I have seldom read such a clueless collection of posts.
Absolutely moronic.
France is a wonderful beautiful country with a rich and varied culture, marvellous food and wine, some of the most elegant women - as in chic -and some of the finest shops in the world.
And all you can come up with is triviality and snide comments and every remark oriented to YOU.
For heaven's sake!
The worst-case scenario for the world is that it all becomes a clone of the US.
A country is neither better or worse because its government happens to agree or not agree with your country.
That's called democracy, something that effectively has avirtually disappeared in the US - along with humour, tolerance and genuine pride and joyfulness. There's a trace of "can-do" left and its still possible to have pleasant conversations with strangers. That's about it.
Wake up!

May 7, 2007, 1:21 a.m.They don't have "libs" in France.
And if they did they wouldn't want or need to "get rid of them".
A functioning democracy is about listening to and respecting all shades of opinion, arguing robustly and honestly for the point of view which you hold and fighting for the right of all to hold diverse opinions.
"Libs" are a fictitious construct of the "USAnd them syndrome" .
The energy that has been squandered in the quixotic and futile "War on Terror" has undermined the culture of the USA and turned it into a nagging, whining, miserable country and a pariah state to boot; effectively, in its functioning, no longer a democracy.

May 7, 2007, 2:32 a.m.It bears repeating, conservative means something different in France than it does in the U.S.

May 7, 2007, 2:54 a.m.While I congratulate Mr. Sarkozy I need to remind everyone that the right in Europe is the left in the US. Unfortunately Europe has forgotten what once made them great and instead have followed the doomed road of socialism and moral relativism. The result Europe has become less important and is nothing but dimished empires that still cling to their glory days. Thank god the US is not on this path of self destruction and irrelevance.

May 7, 2007, 7:01 a.m.Be careful they are still France. Every country with failed economies are turning to Reaganomics, France now included. BUT this country has now turned to the left. Remember in the 1970's scientists said that man made pollution was causing global cooling, now it's global warming! Science make up your mind! AND I don't mean Al Gore science and his left wing sh%t bag anti-Reaganomics message!... I should start buying French soaps...hahahaha.

May 7, 2007, 10:18 a.m.Conservative,liberal or socialist, ONE CANNOT TRUST THE FRENCH! The French have no loyalty or guts to fight against tyrany and human rights. History shows how the French welcomed Nazi Germany in the streets of Paris without putting up a fight. Cowards is the best term to describe the French. They will surrender for a piece of cheese, wine & a baguette!!!

May 7, 2007, 10:22 a.m."New rule: Conservatives have to stop rolling their eyes every time they hear the word "France." Like just calling something French is the ultimate argument winner. As if to say, ha ha, what can you say about a country that was too stupid to get onboard with our wonderfully conceived and brilliantly executed war in Iraq."
