what we need to realize is that politics is primarily a struggle for power - as it's been for centuries....and this is no different even in America today.
The politicians do not have your best interests at heart - unless it serves their goals. Sure, every now and then there's a decent one, but by and large....well, we can see what the politicians have brought this country to.
