May 10, 2007, 2:48 p.m.This man speaks truth to power and is crushed by the establishment.
Just another example that the Left doesn't support free speech, just "correct" speech.

May 10, 2007, 3:17 p.m.Gasp...a liberal university silencing a conservative student? No way! That would never happen!
And know I know that I'm not the only conservative student to be shouted down by professors in graduate school because I didn't buy their BS anti-American marxist propaganda.

May 10, 2007, 6:56 p.m.Pretty funny, in a pathetic sort of way, that when the facist right starts screaming "just like a liberal college blah blah blah," it's in defense of someone who is clearly an idiot with an attitude problem. You can tell that by his "clearly a violation of my fourth amendment rights" comment. Sorry, just because you have a CCW permit doesn't mean a cop can't shake your dumb ass down. Matter of fact, it should send up a red flag to the cop that this person has the ability to kill you, and that's why he's carrying... because he sure as hell isn't carrying for any other reason except to kill.
Now, I have no problem with a CCW permit--I have a problem with an idiot with a CCW permit--and that's what it looks like we have here. And the cop probably sensed that right off the bat.
Some people with a gun seem to get an attitude. They claim it's for protection, and most the time, given they way they behave in public, they're going to need it.

May 10, 2007, 7:18 p.m.I wonder if his university is aware that we have a thing in this country called THE CONSTITUTION that allows concealed carry with permit. This person did nothing wrong other than speak out in favor of LEGALLY carried firearms and now may lose his education and his future because of it. I'd sue the living hell out of them.

May 10, 2007, 8:11 p.m.Interesting that an armed cop was outside the classroom that Sheffler was voluntary absent from. I guess the anti-gun crowd needed protection by an armed cop from the missing student that had a license to carry a gun. The obvious hypocrisy is definitely sweeeeet.

May 10, 2007, 10:42 p.m.Guess no one here is old enough to remember the Vietnam war protests during the early 70's on our college campuses. In those days, the FBI had a file on just about anybody who remotely protested the war, including my grandmother. The police and national guard patroled the campuses and much of the time wore riot gear. Students threw stones, bottles and whatever they could get their hands on at the police and guardsmen. Anyone remember Kent State? Today's students aren't as vocal as those back in the 70's, but I think the campuses see the potential for similar types of behavior. BTW, it was baically this behavior which helped bring an end to the war. Unless you were there, it is hard to picture what was happening, and how much rights were being violated at that time as well.

May 10, 2007, 11:12 p.m.Yes Edmar14 I think most are to juvenile or withdrawn within their own thoughts to know history. We have a corrupt administration and president yet dissent and demonstrations are a illusion for most today, apathy rules the day. Even Johnson and Nixon observed and acknowledged the American demonstrations and policies changed. Today its all gone but for a few believers in what our forefathers anticipated, power of the people. Now its power for our lobbyist, corporate greed and the rich in our society, with acceptence and collusion of our politicians.
Why change policies and course when criminal practices are accepted by the citizens?
America now deserves our English professor as President.

May 11, 2007, 12:28 a.m.The anti-gun, anti-free speech for those who disagree with them, PC Leftist crowd has violated his rights. But that's okay, he's just a Constitutionalist kook to them. Someone who really believes that you have rights, not just priveleges. This has absolutely nothing to do with G. W. Bush being reelected and everything to do with Leftist PC. Put the Leftists in power and you will really see freedom of speech restricted as well as other freedoms.
I hope he sues them for enough to attend a more conservative law school, plus damages. He should also sue the police. Having a permit to carry a concealed weapon does not mean you sign away your rights or that you are automatically a criminal who can be searched without cause.

May 11, 2007, 12:34 a.m.I make all of the following comments after saying that I too am a gun owner.
I'm just wondering if perhaps this man's attitude has anything to do with his troubles? I understand that the man is upset about being asked to leave school. However, doesn't there seem to be quite a bit of bitterness in this article? Perhaps it was injected by the author, but his comments about fellow students getting a free education and then returning to Africa does seem a bit vitriolic. This is just a thought I had while reading the article. These thoughts lead me to believe that many of this individual's problems are almost certainly self induced. I'm sure there was a better way this student could have addressed his concerns and let the administration know of them than the actions he took.
Free speech or not, there are always repercussions to what we say and more importantly maybe how we say them.

May 11, 2007, 12:51 a.m.Liberals used to be the champions of free speech. While I can understand the paranoia following the tragedy at Virginia Tech, I can't forgive the current trend for liberals to allow only PC speech. If the liberals among us are not going to stand up for the 1st amendment, who will?
Politics has simply gotten too overheated. It's time those of us in the middle take the megaphones away from BOTH fringe groups and take back America for Americans.

May 11, 2007, 11:10 a.m.I remember my days at the ol' reeducation camp, I mean university. Thank goodness my major was engineering so we focused on objective topics.
I did however have to take a couple series of non-engineering electives. Without fail, every "professor" used the venue to spew his own agenda. And it was no surprise which way that agenda leaned.

May 11, 2007, 12:06 p.m.And I'm still waiting for the obligatory post from the "We All Just Love To Hate Bush" crowd.
But I don't see it, so I'll post it for them:
It's all Bush's fault!
(and Cheney, and Halliburton, and Rumsfeld, and Rice, and Libby, and Gonzalez, and [Clarence] Thomas, and [Samuel] Alito, ad infinitum, ad nauseum)......
