GOP Made Their Beds, Slept With Dogs... Now What? »

How does a group of GOP Politicians as well as supporters, figure out how to go from here? Finding a new identity while at the same time trying to reconcile the fact they were the ones that created the monster. They made their beds, slept with dogs, now they got fleas... go figger

    Well, although I doubt they'll go this route, they simply need to get the government to follow the principles of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

    Both are written in plain English - and they're not just good ideas, they're the law.

      I kinda get mushy on this subject and keep hoping the GOP will actually change... back to one of true compassion as in the days of Eisenhower. But then again, who would a$$holes vote for then?

          They're all a$$holes,who are you going to vote for?The third choice if there is one no matter who they are,things can't really get any worse I hope.If 75 to 90 % of elected officials were voted out there would be a major clean-up.A new broom sweeps clean;a change is as good as a rest, corny, but things are not working as they should.Less lawyers,over 95% of the elected are,variety is needed

            As they jump ship, we all need to remember that it's from a sense of expediency. It's to save their own posteriors. They haven't really changed stripes. Remember that when elections roll around again. Maybe some indictments and convictions can drive this point home also.

              I could be wrong but I have heard that this "Great Experiment" is the oldest standing government on earth. I feel that the Constitution is but a piece of paper that gets its power from The Bill of Rights and The Declaration of Independence. Liberty is the backbone.

              The Anti-Federalists refused to ratify the Constitution until it was amended with The Bill of Rights.

              "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness."

                The Declaration of Independence is the article by which we set ourselves Free.

                It's authority supercedes all other documents as the Foundation of American Law.

                    Liberalism and Conservatism by definition are not diametrically opposed. In practice they balance each other out.

                    Neo-Conservatism is an interesting word with an interesting history. Books and studies have been written by people that describe themselves as Neo-Conservatives. Many of the people in our current administration have aligned themselves with the people of this relatively new movement.

                    There is nothing New (Neo) about the principles of liberalism.

                    There is no New (Neo) form of Communism.

                        In their zeal to defeat democratic candidates at the polls the Republican party sold it's soul to the PNAC imperialist neocons and the loony evangelical meth tooting knobgoblins.

                        These factions grossly underestimated the innate ability of the electorate to eventually want the slogans to match the deeds of their candidates.

                        The reality of this sell out is that all these people have revealed in a very short time just how corrupt, hypocritical and incompetent they actually are. My estimate is there will be very few republican victories for the next generation. (Unless the democrats do something really dumb, like imitate republicans.) The GOP, a division of Maomart....

                          The leadership of the Republican Party and Bushworld are run as a criminal enterprise. The only thing that can cure this disease is serious jail time for the perpetrators. If these people are let off the hook like Nixon was let off, this democracy will be doomed.

                            To expand upon the famous ".....money trumps peace....." comment by the great decider, let's try 'money trumps democracy'.

                            Good article, the only problem is that I seem to think that the old saying of 'too little too late' may apply here as it pretains to our so called 'freedom(s)' granted to us 'we the people', by the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

                              Everybody gripes but nobody wants to raise hell about it

                              you don't have to carry protest signs and smoke dope to raise hell about something you know isn't working

                              You know I heard a small quiet comment from a woman at a Prayer Day celebration I was covering that nearly knocked me down. She said we needed to pray for the president and then in a quiet voice almost like it hurt her to say it ...she said we needed to pray for the troops and that "We know we need them to come home..." This woman was an protestant Christian and clearly, at least to me a Bush supporter who has finally had enough and was in her own way making it known...more of us need to have that kind of courage

                                Well it seems that the republican congressional members are so worried about their jobs they have asked the president to pull out of the war in Iraq so they have a better chance in the next election. They don't seem to care about the lives of our troops but they sure don't want to loose those lucrative jobs in Congress.

                                Does this say anything about how these people think? I think it does. But I guess if you are a Republican you find this acceptable. I do not.

                                    The steps we can take to save our country are:

                                    1. One term and you are out! This would apply to ALL ELECTED AND APPOINTED PUBLIC SERVANTS, including Judges. No retirement benefits, no chauffeur-driven limousines, no public housing. They must work the same number of days as every American does. One term of public service, and you are done. No other public job again, ever!

                                    2. Citizen must have a right to recall their representatives, just the same way we return bad or defective merchandise!

                                    3. In to-day's world of instant communications, every legislation that our elected ho' votes on, must be approved or ratified by his constituents. This means more active participation by constituents.

                                    4.Five-year term limit would get the Dark S.T.A.R.s (Scalia,Thomas, Alito and Roberts, the justices from the Dark Ages) out, and no lifetime job at public trough.

                                    5. Lobbying would be a crime, punishable by 10 years in the cooler.

                                    6. Planned move to parliamentary democracy.

                                      Reading this post while listening to Putin of Russia insinuating a parallel behind the Bush Administration and Hitlers Germany, makes me ponder this one truth, I must agree with Putin and for me its very sad. I am but one voice and this article brings me back to reality knowing that many Americans share this opinion about the GOP.

                                      How could a country elect a leader like Bush and the corrupt administration that is caught weekly in absurd acts of criminal behavior, yet accepted by the Republicans.

                                      I heard a survey about Darwinism and Creationism and the polls said that almost half of Americans believe in Creationism and the world being six thousand years old. Then the light bulb went off, these are the idiots that elected this religious dunce in the first place.

                                      So nice being religious while taking the country down the toilet while all his friends become rich on the backs of dead soldiers in Iraq. Avowed Republicans are a despicable, illiterate, greedy mass of humanity.

                                            Guess what?, folks.... It could get worse, far worse! And that is when enough Americans in their disillusionment now vote in a "Man of God' - like Pat Robertson, or that wild-eyed "writer", Dela Haye...or any of the other nuts from Colorado Springs (The Fundies' "Vatican")!

                                              I began to read the article and immediately began to reel.

                                              I skimmed to the bottom. I had seen enough. The secular-progressive lady author seems to have forgotten how well Afghanistan Campaign was & is being performed.

                                              POTUS Bush and his folks said what they had to say, to line up the electorate behind them for the Invasion of Iraq. That sucks to High Heaven, but there it is.

                                              The planning for Iraq was flawed or nonexistent in critical areas. We rushed, then bogged down to near a stalemate.

                                              The destruction & bloodletting have indeed, been troublesome to observe even from afar.

                                              The military situation in the occupation /now/ is difficult but improving. Let us allow it the time necessary.

                                                Oh boy, another liberal hate story. Why can't we just agree to disagree. What I see here is liberals slamming conservatives for policies. Flaunting the "law", The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights. Let's not forget, The Bill of Rights gives Americans the RIGHT to own a firearm. Liberals are against this. So I guess when it comes down to it, you'll keep the portions of the law you like, and ignore the ones you don't. Why don't we just take every single law writen and enforce them as written. So let's arrest 50% of the politicians because, let's face it, there are criminals on both sides. Let's also not forget, that the previous Commander and Chief was too busy getting ******from interns to care about doing much for the country. Both sides have made mistakes. Our mistake is to sit here are remain retarded to the fact that the country is slowly falling apart because idiots can't work together because one side is Dem and one side Rep.

                                                    I wouldn't go as far as blaming ALL republicans for our problems. There are good and bad representatives in both parties, and we need both parties to balance things out.

                                                    The right wingers who overtook the republican party need to go though for they have really crippled their party and created the mess we have today.

                                                    We shouldn't just get rid of the "bad apples" in just one party though. We should consider replacing anyone NOT representing the best interests of the people.
