Iraq Is Not Our Country »
Posted by: populist 2 years, 6 months agoOur invasion and occupation are illegal, being in violation of both international law and our own traditions. We were lied into war. We are still being lied to. We need to get out of Iraq right now. This folly has already cost us 3,300 American lives, $500 billion in tax money, 30,000 wounded...

May 11, 2007, 9:06 p.m.Very good article, populist thanks!
Does the Iraqi parliment really want to fix their country?
(Another Question, does anyone happen to know:
Is American tax dollars being giving to the Iraqi parliment as salaries?)
The Iraqi parliment is planning to take two months off(July & August), unless our government talks them out of it, then they might take only a couple of weeks off.
Oh, wait, our congress & government leaders take the whole month of August plus a few days off, too. Leaving our troops to stay over there fighting.

May 11, 2007, 9:49 p.m.A majority of the Iraqi parliament has already indicated that they want us gone. If indeed Iraq is a sovereign nation, then we have no business hanging around as unwanted occupiers, putting our sons and daughters at risk and pouring ever more money down a black hole.
All the politicians need to get this message loud and clear. Get out now. Get all the troops out now. If big oil wants to get the Iraqi oil, let them supply their own dang mercenaries.
Build no permanent bases in Iraq. If big oil wants a base, let them build it their own dang selves. And NO, it is NOT tax deductible.

May 12, 2007, 11:53 a.m.Um, what profit? The oil companies are raking in huge profits because the price of gasoline is up, not because feedstock is cheap. They aren't making any money off Iraqi oil. They aren't exporting enough of it to make any difference in the world market.
And where the oil companies do have operations in dangerous parts of the world, they hire well-armed security guards. People like you call those guards mercenaries, though.
And there's a good reason why the US will stay involved militarily in the middle east for some time to come. We are nowhere near being energy independent, and you have no concept of how drastically and painfully your life would change if the Middle East spigot ever got turned off.

May 11, 2007, 9:56 p.m.Invading other countries when we wish is in our tradition.
We invaded the Phillipines, several Latin American countries in the early part of the 20th Century and Haiti.
We invaded Laos and Cambodia. We invaded Grenada and Panama.
We invaded Somalia.
Many others we waged (and still wage) terrorist campaigns against.
Being lied to and accepting it is also in our tradition.

May 11, 2007, 10:07 p.m.The Interesting thing about this invasion is , The insurgents have learned how to thwart american agression.
They make us pay a price too high and never achieve our objectives.
For the insurgent to win he need only survive and keep killin you.
For america to Win all the insurgents have to Die or surrender.
I'm no betting on Americas prospects in this project

May 11, 2007, 10:37 p.m.Most Americans, Iraqis and especially me know the war is wrong and Bush refuses reality but I will prompt this question for the average blogger,
When 9/11 occurred we Americans mostly knew Iraq was not part of the Al Queda network. Would it not be more practical for retribution against terrorist with covert means rather than Conventional warfare? In line with that question would you condone a strong unfettered C.I.A. with oversight to exact this retribution with assassinations?

May 12, 2007, 1:23 a.m.America's invasion of Iraq is a tragic mistake and will never be corrected in our life time. Bush has laid the foundation stone to destroy American prestige and respect.

May 12, 2007, 2:15 a.m.We could do what the British did in India, and stay for 100 years - and they would still have their civil war and divide the country up as soon as we left.
What could possibly make you think the Americans would be better a a colonial power than the British?

May 12, 2007, 2:26 a.m.LOL!! I don't know why i laugh? It's sad really that most Americans still think what is going on with our country and the war is still about party lines. WAKE UP!! There is no difference between the parties anymore! They both work for the same people so much more rich and powerful then we know. The Republican party has turned into mind controlling NAZIS and the Democratic party has turned into metally ill sociopaths. If you really think it will change with the next President get a clue. God forbid Hillary Clinton who has been at Bilderberg meetings or Rudy Gilianti who is in bed with the same scum. As far as im concerned Ron Paul is the only one worth electing, but he won't be because your vote no longer counts. Presidents are no longer elected they are appointed! Sprending Democracy HA!! Its the worst form of government read the Constitution WE ARE A REPULIC not a Democracy! It you think im a nut tell me why Persephone goddess of the underworld sits on top of the Capitol Building.

May 12, 2007, 7:37 a.m.I heard one of the Presidential Candidates ideas on a strategy for Iraq. His idea was to put the question of our troops staying there to the Iraqi government, if the government voted for us to stay, we stay, if the Iraqi government voted for us to leave, we leave. Sounds like a fair solution to this mess.
