Amidst all 5,800 mammals, there is only one species that has perpetually swollen mammary glands. Odds are you are a member of this strangely anomalous, difficult to explain species.

Human sexuality, you might want to stay actually two a-breast, not just abreast.

Everyone knows they came about to give women the ability to work in Gentlemen's clubs of course!

            Just kidding, interesting read though.

It would be interesting to see if the breast size in other industrialized nations has increased the same. I would bet not. I would also think that you are onto something with the obesity observation.

Only partially obesity, but mostly BGH.......same reason many 13 yr olds have the bodies of 16-18 year olds these days

toph1973, I have worked in other countries, and very little obesity, and yes I also got an eyeful. Experience has been firm and well dimensioned :)

I recall standing in the middle of production floor monitoring production lines, when I noticed a woman setting down a tray of parts with what looked like lingerie underneath her smock...wow ... I had to remind myself that labor laws are different and that what is good for the goose applies equally for gander. The show didn't stop there, and for a year everyday was interesting.

We are also the only species that uses their perpetually swollen mammary glands to obtain job promotions, cars, and jewelry. Sounds like a fair trade to me.

Hmm. I seen a good answer to the riddle. It goes something like this...

Human females need human males to provide extra food, both for themselves and for their children. If you've ever seen a troop of bonobos (pygmy chimpanzees), you've seen males trade food for sex.

But males don't want to give up food to just any female, or help protect all children. Evolution has hardwired them to prefer women who are more likely to bear children (good health, not too young, too old, to fat, too sickly) and to care for children that are born after they start having sex with a woman.

If women had breasts that only swelled when they became fertile, the males would just hop from mate to mate, having sex with the obviously fertile females. Again, Pan Troglodytes, or "Regular" chimpanzees.

But if ALL the women had swollen breasts ALL the time, how are the poor males to tell who's fertile and who isn't? Might as well just find a good one and stick with her.
