More than 20 months after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the Gulf Coast, many local governments and citizens still lack adequate funds to begin rebuilding their lives. So it's all the more puzzling that in the wake of those storms, this country turned back or wasted most of the more than $850 million in foreign cash and oil donations pledged by at least 150 countries to help the stricken areas. The expense to U.S. taxpayers since then: about $110 billion.

"Someone should be held accountable for this monumental failure at the worst of times."

But, sadly, no one will be held accountable, because the blame will always lie elsewhere.

The cost to the American people ($110 billion!) to help with the Katrina mess, the money that will now be spent on finding the people who are to blame for turning away the money from other countries (and you know it will take years and, as said already, no one will be blamed for this) is ridiculous! Maybe only the bad stuff gets talked about on Netscape and we just don't hear about the hundreds of terrific things (I hope!) our govt does for American's, but man, our govt really sucks!

This government is not about helping the common man. The

way Katrina victims have been treated is a prime example. I went to college at The University of New Orleans (UNO)& ended up living in New Orleans for 10 yrs. before moving back home to B'ham, Al. I have relatives in NOLA. I consider it my 2nd home. It has been heartbreaking to watch the people of NOLA play 2nd fiddle to the Bush administration's "war on terror"! PLEASE; it's big oil companies, Halliburton & Cheney's "war to get richer". It makes me sick. Even if I didn't have special ties to the city, it would still make me sick. There is no compassion for the common man in this administration.

            Worse President/Administration Ever!!!!!!

Sad and Pathetic and the list could go on about Bush and Gang.

They haven't done a lot for anyone but claim they do a lot for everybody. They promise this and that and those people are still not getting what they need.

Our country has helped so much around the world and it would not hurt to accept some help ourselves when we need it.

You know...It's not just this administration that I am disappointed with, it the political scene as a whole. Right now I am fed up with both parties...neither seem to have what's best for the country and it's citizens in mind. All you hear on the news is some kind of nitpicking about this, that, or the other....and the conversation about that goes on for days and days, and nothing is accomplished. Right now we have the blame game going on. Nothing is going to be accomplished until someone accepts responsibility for what is happening. Both political parties are trying to "one up" the other and that's not accomplishing anything either. It's like watching WWE smackdown. Heaven help us...because its going to get worse.

Sen. Landrieu, and Gov. Blanco are the last people to be chairing any disaster relief subcommittees, or pointing fingers. The White House contacted Gov. Blanco 48 hours prior to landfall asking if LA needed assistance in evacuating, or emergency services and she told them she would get back to them. Mayor Nagin sat on his hands with a weeks notice of the impending storm and did nothing. Remember the hundreds of buses under water? How about all those transit buses as well? There are no clean hands in this, especially in LA.

I am underwhelmed with the national response to Katrina. The news treated the whole affair as if New Orleans was the only place hit by Katrina- as did the federal government. Federal government allotted at least 80 billion to New Orleans, but failed to send recovery funds to other areas stricken by the storm, such as Pensacola, FL.

It the Bush Administration has one lasting legacy, it is that of monumental incompetence. Not only is the President incompetent, he collects and rewards even more incompetent people to serve in his administration.
