May 13, 2007, 1:09 a.m.I won't be terribly shocked if we eventually learn that this is the work of American oil interests and/or the US government (not that there's much to distinguish the two these days).

May 13, 2007, 1:16 a.m.There's no way that $5-$15 million dollars worth of oil disappears in a day everyday for how many months, without someone knowing about it.

May 13, 2007, 1:43 a.m.I keep thinking about those 40 inch pipes running out to the gulf with broken flow meters. Why, just any old ship could pull up and then fill up, and no one would know. Umm, how many aircraft carrier battle groups do we have in the gulf right now? Couldn't they police some old pipes?

May 13, 2007, 7:58 a.m.The nations of OPEC constantly mis-state their production figures for various reasons. Sometimes understate production to enable them to pump more oil beyond the quotas set by OPEC and sometimes they overstate it to inflate their importance and voting power in OPEC. I would think that Saddam was likely overstating Iraq's oil production all along and now the US is finding out that maybe it wasn't as profitable as they thought it would be to take over Iraq. I guess Saddam gets the last laugh on the US after all.

May 13, 2007, 10:24 a.m.I don't trust any of the players. Not the Shiites, not the Sunnis, not Halliburton, not big oil, not our government. I also don't trust any of the figures. I'm sure there is some missing oil. Just as there is all that missing money. The thieves in the region must be tripping over each other and swirling around in an oily amalgum of corruption.
I'm gonna go feed my chickens. They never lie to me, give me good eggs and only ask for chicken feed in return.
