O'Reilly: Katie Couric's Low Ratings Are 'A Woman Thing' »
Posted by: populist 2 years, 5 months agoLast night on The O'Reilly Factor, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly blamed CBS's ratings on the fact that Couric is a woman. "I think it's a woman thing," O'Reilly said. "It's an authority position. Most middle Americans who watch news feel comfortable with men in that position. That's what's going on."

May 16, 2007, 7:53 a.m.In contemporary television, there is no reward for accurate and reasoned news commentary, but there are huge rewards for saying something outrageous and/or controversial. Bill O'Reilly, Keith Olbermann, Ann Coulter, and Rosie O'Donnell contribute almost nothing of substance to important national discussions, but the reactions they evoke among the uninformed yet partisan citizenry can easily dominate discussions.
O'Reilly, Olbermann, Coulter, and O'Donnell prosper because you people are stupid.

May 16, 2007, 8:43 a.m.It is an age thing. When women get older they are not viewed by men I suppose. It may be the time and the format also. Edie Hill will be the next to go. She is getting up there. Still the double standard-from both men and women. Men do not view watching older women and women fear becomming the older woman.

May 16, 2007, 8:53 a.m.I watch O'Reilly and heard him state "It's a women thing". He could be right, but I disagree. Couric seems to do just fine, but the PC police at CBS control what is said & how it is said. I believe "It's the CBS thing" that makes her look bad.

May 16, 2007, 11:14 a.m.I think I know what he meant. Think about ALL the high profile anchors in american history for nightly news. They have all been men. Maybe it DOES change the perception of the news? Couric's personality is more of a talk show host really. I mean picture Dan Rather doing good morning america...it just doesnt work not everyone is suited for every job.

May 16, 2007, 11:58 a.m.If you saw the actual interview on Fox, you would know that what he said was not against Katie Couric or women in general....he was simply stating that Americans want a male in the role of news anchor. Pure and simple. And that does seem to be true. She has her own problems, such as being very negative and anything but upbeat or positive and that is what is ultimatly going to do her in. People don't want a 'downer' giving them the news when it may be bad news to begin with. She just makes viewers feel even worse about what they are hearing. Charlie Gibson will be her replacement I bet.

May 16, 2007, 12:23 p.m.I think OReilly was playing "devil's advocate", in asking the question. He just asked a question, doesn't mean he believes it. He has quite afew women on his show. Michele sits in for him when hes gone. So you left wing nuts jobs keep believing what you read...the artical was from think progress....?? give me a break. I think Katie is just boring. she was better on the morning show.

June 29, 2007, 9:20 p.m.It's not that she is a woman that is the problem, it is that she is so dumb herself. If they had an intellegent woman with less gross fake plastic surgery I'm sure listeners would have no problem.
