The Air Car »
Posted by: buzzsaw 2 years, 7 months agoThe fiberglass MiniC.A.T. runs on compressed air, and offers zero pollution and very low running costs. Many respected engineers have been trying for years to bring a compressed air car to market, believing strongly that compressed air can power a viable "zero pollution" car. Now the first commercial compressed air car is on the verge of

May 15, 2007, 1:15 a.m.Might be seeing one of these in the near future. Why can't American companies come up with inventions like this anymore? Not your daddys America anymore. : (

May 15, 2007, 12:59 p.m.Tata's CEO had promised in his 60 Minutes interview that his company will be producing a car in India for $2000. This must be the one he had in his mind! The price projected in terms of manufacturing in that country would be just about that figure!
What a wonderful way to give us mobility without pollution!
I think, with use of solar and wind energy, the air compressors would produce compressed air with zero pollution, too!
This is what I would call a "Win-Win" solution!
First the micro-lending phenomenon by the Bangladesh economist who won Nobel Prize for pulling millions of women out of poverty with his Grameen Bank, and now Tata's coming up with this simple and economical car! I say that subcontinent is leading the way!
Hearty congratulations to the inventors!

May 15, 2007, 2:06 p.m.Thank you, buzzsaw for posting this, and thank you to searchbeam for alerting me to this.
About all I can say is WOW! This is great news? Hope they become available here soon. As long as no corporate puppet politicians make up some dang rule about hot air, it should go a long ways to cleaning up inner city air pollution. Hot Dang!

May 15, 2007, 4:58 p.m.Great news. I want one also.
I wonder the pressure needed in the tanks for effective power in a 200 to 300 miles trip.
How resistant to puncture or collision would be such tank.
Rupture of the same would by rapid decompression may generate a significant dropping of the temperature to below freezing point. Explosion would be possible as well.
Is the frame part of the recipient for air?
Do we have any information with more precise engineering details as how they resolved such problems?

May 15, 2007, 6 p.m.If I read the article correctly, the cost of a vehicle would be 5500 british pounds - that translates to 11,000 U.S. dollars.
I could deal with that!

May 15, 2007, 6:20 p.m.Way cool concept. I do not know how it works but I do work with compressed air. Separate storage areas contained in a hollow frame bled and fed by a processor. Regenerative braking would be a cinch. It seems to me that it would take a lot of energy to get the CFM required, but heck entire factories used to be run by a water wheel. I want to know more!

May 16, 2007, 1:04 a.m.We need this here. It is a good start. What is 5,5000 pounds in American money? Metric and different money systems give me a hard time.

May 16, 2007, 1:10 a.m.did ya ever think it takes energy to compress the air.
I tried making my car run on compressed air but burnt my lips on the exhaust pipe trying to blow it up

May 16, 2007, 10:54 a.m.Buzzsaw I wonder if they have a promotion program in line for the U.S.. Would such a car be barred from over here? That would be the big oil mans worst nightmare. Wish I could buy one.

May 16, 2007, 4:29 p.m.Searchbeam With my luck I might be able to take that so called income tax refund and put a down payment on one. I wish I could be on their promotion list. We do not need a war over oil. We do not even need their oil. We can bring home our troops and the oil barons can dry up. Which is just what they deserve. They have wasted a lot of innocent lives with their greed.

May 17, 2007, 1:48 p.m.A Better life for all yet Our Congress ignores it and continues to promote things that harm us all. How do you get some of this stock. I did nothing but talk about this car to every body I was around at work last night. They will believe it when they see it.
