May 17, 2007, 2:27 p.m.I would agree, and also say that if they are given amnesty, how does that make all who are waiting in line legally? If you are going to let them off, fine, but do not fast track them. Put them at the end of the line; no cuts.

May 17, 2007, 7:13 p.m."finance construction of 370 miles of fencing along the Mexican border" That cuts the fencing in half from the bill passed last fall
They want to use more technology - sensors, drones etc. What are they going to do when the coyotes use the tactic of sending 500-1000 across in a group? Send a humvee with 2 border patrol agents? That's a strategy used in the past by the coyotes - I can't remember what they called it when I lived in AZ. That way the agents might catch a few but the majority get through.
There is going to be an absolute flood in the coming weeks as they try to get here before any bill passes.
Are you aware of how many OTMs (other than Mexicans) cross?
DHS supplied numbers of OTMs registered, by country of origin, who had been released on their own recognizance for 2002, 2003, and 2004. The totals were 5,775, 9,139, and 30,756 respectively. According to Duncan Hunter that number significantly increased in 2005. Those are just the ones that were caught

May 17, 2007, 8:54 p.m.Our current laws on immigration have not been enforced for the past, 21 years. So, I am not going to hold my breathe that a new set of laws will be enforced either.
Unless all of our laws are enforced, this will be just another stack of paperwork to have to pay to store.

May 17, 2007, 9:50 p.m.The operative word here is ILLEGAL. Period. They have no right to be here, send them back to where ever they came from. NOW. It is a no brainer, Illegal is Illegal. No benefits, no Green card, nothing. They have NO RIGHT to be here. My tax dollars are to be spent on US citizens that need help. Not 12 million people that have sneaked across our porous southern border. Send them home, lock down the border.

May 17, 2007, 9:57 p.m.Amnesty -(from the Greek amnestia, oblivion) is an act of justice by which the supreme power in a state restores those "who may have been guilty of any offence against it to the position of innocent persons. It includes more than pardon, in as much as it obliterates all legal remembrance of the offence."
You cannot call a $5000 dollar fine amnesty. I may not agree with the plan but a fine for a crime is not that uncommen of a punishment in our legal system. If you disagree with the plan at least make your argument real, that you do not think the punishment is severe enough and stop spouting slogans and catchwords some TV commentator fed you. If you're going to demand that your elected representative represent you you need to show them that you speak for yourself not just parrot a slogan because it's popular.

May 17, 2007, 9:59 p.m.Allowing 12 Million Illegal aliens into the country is tantamount to excusing 12 million drunk drivers or 12 million petty thieves, who would agree to that?

May 17, 2007, 10 p.m.How are we supposed to guard our border to the south when a liberal piece of crap judge throws border patrol agents in jail for shooting a worthless illegal who was smuggling drugs into OUR country.
Maybe it's time to take up the arms that the Second Amendment grants us and fix the illegal problem that is growing larger with every vote in Congress.

May 17, 2007, 10:04 p.m.It didn't work the last time!! That was with 2 or 4 million illegals. Now we have at least 12 million. What makes them think that will work this time?

May 17, 2007, 10:15 p.m.I live in a small town in West Virginia, population about 2000, there are farmlands across the Ohio River that plant tomato ,corn. soybeans etc. We are overrun with Mexican workers. Every payday , they line up at the local grocery store and wire home money. I would bet you that of the hundred or so workers that are here , all are Illegals. They live in an abandoned bar, travel in an old school bus. Their kids are in our school system. they go to the local hospital, and yet pay no taxes. And we have to pay for a Spanish interpreter.

May 17, 2007, 10:18 p.m.Make sure you find out how your senator and representaive voted. If he/she voted to give amnesty to these illegal aliens write a letter or send an email letting them know that they will be voted out of office come next election. These politicians do not represent us and they must understand that we will not tolerate it any more. Then and only then will they begin to pay attention to their constituents. It is just unbelievable that these politicians think this is the right thing to do.
