The Last Temptation of Al Gore »
Posted by: Neophile 2 years, 5 months agoAl Gore may be the perfect stealth candidate for 2008, a Democrat who could step into the presidential race when the party confronts its doubts about the front runners. Someone with a message that transcends politics, someone who spoke out loud and clear and early against the war in Iraq. Someone with experience and credibility on the world stage.

May 17, 2007, 10:23 a.m.There is a precedent for a Vice President losing a close, controversial election, and then coming back eight years later - Nixon did it. Al Gore's character, of course, is far superior to that of Nixon, or that of the present occupant of the White House.

May 17, 2007, 10:38 a.m.I'm not a huge Gore fan politically, but I do think he is one of the good guys and really wants to get the right things done. Does he have the fight left in him to go through another campaign? Just imagine what Hillary.......the smear tactics...I think he is too nice of a person to watch him try to handle what could be down the road in this upcoming campaign.

May 17, 2007, 10:44 a.m.From reading the article, I felt that Gore has finally found what he wants to do with his life. I don't think he really wants to run for President. He likes what he's doing.
But we do need someone cut from the same cloth. Someone who has brains. Someone who can take the long view. Almost all the current gaggle of candidates on both sides are in love with the politics, the idea of power and themselves, not necessarily in that order.

May 17, 2007, 11:17 a.m.I don't think we need anyone as "smart" as Al in office. His global warming idea is SO right on the money. May 15th is supposed to be the "frost proof" day in this part of the country. Today is May 17th. There is frost predicted for tonight. Global Warming my as*.

May 17, 2007, 11:17 a.m.Gore is a typical mainstream politician. He has an obsession with global warming which is his primary push at this time. That alone will not get my vote. I certainly don't see him as the answer to this country's problems.

May 17, 2007, 11:21 a.m.To heck with the article, where did they get that picture, Fat Al looks like Count Dracula.
Al means well but doesn't know when to shut up.
Clintons words would serve Gore best, Keep It Simple Stupid.
If Gore does run, his perfect running mate would be...Michael Moore....the dream team!

May 17, 2007, 11:34 a.m.Ah, Mr. Gore proclaiming to be on the side of freedom and open debate. That's like Jeffery Dahmer advocating vegetarianism. This guy just told the country to stop debating human-induced global warming because he declared it to be an open and shut case. He is a member of the party that wants to raise your taxes and decide who gets to participate in economic activity. The only debate he wants to be in is one with people that take his far-left ideas seriously.
Oh, and Trnscndr...we are ultimately responsible for our government. we elect them, and I'll bet you voted for the Nancy Pelosi moonbat party. ANyone ever tell you that the Dems VOTED for the frickin' war?

May 17, 2007, 11:37 a.m.The Fundamentalist Christian, ultra-conservative, corporate Neocons have been wrong about everything, including the stifling of Nasa scientists' findings. The Neocons have done every unAmerican, hateful, spiteful, fascist, anti-Democracy thing they can think of and get away with, like trying to tear down the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They stand against what is good about this country (and everybody knows it.)
At this point if the Cons hate him that much, he's probably be what this country needs.

May 17, 2007, 11:49 a.m.crespi, I get that you are a liberal and can't stand the idea of anyone on earth still believing in the traditional Judeo-Christian values that this country was founded upon. However, the "neocons" as you put it, are the only ones left fighting for INDIVIDUAL freedom and rights. Buddy, it wasn't the conservatives that voted to take away your private property rights. It was the liberals that decided that the eminent domain clause could be invoked at the whim of the government. Liberals are shouting down the people's feedom to practice their religion (unless you're a muslim). Liberals are the ones touting the "fairness doctrine" which would effectively stifle talk radio. So, who really is out to destroy the constitution? In your words, I think "everyone knows" who.

May 17, 2007, 12:40 p.m.I'm looking forward to George W Bush's book after he leaves the Whitehouse. (hopefully written for a 8 10 jail cell)
I'm sure it will be a intelectual masterpiece, one that will be studied the world over for its incite into the world of international relations and nation building. The understanding of religion and its place in the making of democracy the middle east.

May 17, 2007, 12:50 p.m.Miklit...Iraq has EVERYTHING to do with the war on terror. Hence why al Qaida has been operating as "insurgents" in Iraq to try to make it LOOK LIKE WE'RE LOSING. Besides, is there anyone who doesn't believe that Saddam was a terrorist?
Either way, you can tell your grandma that she can sleep at night. The government is not interestsed in listening in to her phone calls to Aunt Betty about the Friday night Bingo game.
