May 18, 2007, 12:37 p.m.The run-up in prices is a big concern for store chains, according to the retailers' trade group. Its survey of consumers released early Friday found the average consumer believes that the price of gas will reach $3.32 per gallon by Father's Day.
As a result, 40.2 percent of consumers are taking fewer shopping trips, while 37.9 percent told the survey they plan to shop closer to home (37.9%). In addition, 30.7 percent said they are shopping for sales more often and 23.5 percent are using more coupons.

May 18, 2007, 1:42 p.m.i've never really understood why it is that gas costs so much money. I've only been driving about 9 years now and I can remember when I first started driving and it was at about 89 cents/gallon. I just paid $3.09 today!
I recently read that the gas stations only receive about 9% of the total cost of gas per gallon and I believed that until today. I stopped at a gas station near where I work, which was priced at $3.09 per gallon. When I went in to pay, I asked the gas station manager how much he thought gas would continue to go up. he said he thought that by next week (which, yes, i'm aware is memorial day weekend) gas would be at $3.50. the next thing he said, shocked me. he said that the shipment he was receiving today would cost him about $2.24 per gallon. i have no idea what he paid last, but that's about an 85 cent profit right there! and gas prices will continue to go up? i don't see how this should be legal.

May 19, 2007, 1:11 p.m.Here are the problems: Congress allowed a few years ago major oil refineries to merge such as Mobil with Exxon and Chevron and Atlantic Richfield or Texaco, I forget which. Secondly, there exist self - righteous, tree huggers who claim that we have to be careful about green house gases for our future. They institute all these rules and regs to reduce emissions(they talk about carbon dioxide, CO2, and carbon monoxide, CO, interchangeably when in fact, carbon dioxide, CO2,is the gas we humans exhale and plants 'inhale' with the process of photosynthesis that creates oxygen, or O2, as a 'waste by-product'for we humans to breathe. The liberal environmental types ought to go back to school and take a remedial biology or chemistry class and study which carbon OXIDE gas is REALLY THE PROBLEM !)Thirdly, the states and federal government places taxes on the gas for road repair and usage. And I love how the liberals blame the consumers. Why weren 't they complaining 30 , 40 or even 50 years ago?
