Posted by: TechnologyExpert 2 years, 5 months agoThe Democrats, in a meeting with Bush's top aides on Capitol Hill, said they would strip from a war spending bill billions of dollars in domestic spending that the White House had opposed. They also pledged to give Bush authority to waive compliance with a timetable to pull combat troops out of Iraq. But no agreement emerged.

May 18, 2007, 12:54 p.m.Like I said yesterday, it looks like the word compromise = unconditional surrender to Bush.

May 18, 2007, 4:15 p.m.That's right. The President thinks he doesn't have to compromise, but politics is the art of compromise especially when you have an approval rating of 28 percent.
Eventually, Congress will override the President's veto on Iraq because there will be no other way to get anything done.

May 18, 2007, 4:20 p.m.This maniac in the "White House" (now truned a sad ecru) is a true danger to the hundreds of thousands of loyal Americans serving in Iraq.
By denying that the Iraqis must be held to defending Iraq, he is placing the Citizens of the United States who are serving there at GRAVE risk.
his man does not care fo American Lives. He only cares for his oil.
Iraq to the Iraqis....SHAME ON BUSH AND HIS OIL BUDDIES

May 18, 2007, 4:17 p.m.Or the Dems could not figure out how to avoid the blame on themselves and pin the blame on Bush for the problems that a timetable would cause.

May 18, 2007, 4:30 p.m.I think the Dems should pass a bill that says in effect to the soldiers in Iraq; Here's all the funding you need to perform your mission but you are now on an indefinite open ended tour and you don't get to come home until the Republicans say you can come home and not one day sooner. If you liked the idea of 18 month tours you'll just love your new Republican sponsored infinity tour.

May 18, 2007, 4:38 p.m.I wonder if anyone in congress will ever have the balls to stand up and point out that the authorization to use the U.S. military in Iraq expired with the government of Saddam Hussein? I think they all need to get out that authorizing legislation and read it over again.

May 18, 2007, 4:44 p.m.Its amazing how they can always come up with Billions of US dollars in this war but when there was peace and no wars fought then there is no billions for getting this country going on the right foot and help the American people.

May 18, 2007, 4:45 p.m.For the love of God and the little baby HeyZeus, is there ANY way to get people to STOP 1) claiming we are in a war in Iraq and 2) that we have LOST that war. We are NOT at war with Iraq. We defeated Iraq in just a couple of weeks. There is a NEW government there. We are ALLIES of the new Iraqi government, NOT enemies. We are currently fighting ALONGSIDE the troops and police of the new government to try to quell INSURGENT faction(s). TECHNICALLY, THERE IS NOT CURRENTLY A WAR IN IRAQ - REGARDLESS OF WHAT ANYONE IN DC TRIES TO CALL IT. They (especially GWB) keep calling it a "war" to make it seem like we still have legitimate business there. Unless the Congress passes additional authorizing legislation, WE DO NOT. We DID, but we don't any more.

May 18, 2007, 5:11 p.m.In rejecting ANY time table for turning Iraq defense over to Iraqis, this administration has violated any reasonable definition of "democracy in Iraq".
It should be clear to all that for the Bush Administration, this is NOT about democracy in Iraq, it is about a permanent U.S. territory through which Mr. bush's Buddies can become even richer via oil and war.

May 18, 2007, 5:43 p.m.Send him the bill. Let him veto it. Tell him to take his veto and go to Hell. Then tell him if he wants the funds without conditions to hold a bake sale. Maybe Laura can bake cookies and his Daddy's rich buddies will buy them!
WORST PRESIDENT EVER!

May 18, 2007, 5:59 p.m.Is this adminisration TOTALLY and ABSOULETLY lacking in diplomatic skill?
Talk about a death sentance for the Repubican Party, this one is it.
By placing our troops in premanent danger, Mr. Bush will silence the rest of the 28% that for some reason still approve of his conduct.

May 18, 2007, 6:14 p.m.I know I'm about to get slammed with negative comments by saying this but..I will take into consideration oppositional comments from only bible believing people.Because we know it is writtin that Isreal will be destroyd. Jews and Christians will be persicuted. Because of Iran and its evil I'm really starting to support the men and woman overseas and President Bush and his fight against evil and against those in the U.S. fighting against him as well.He truly does have the hardest Job in the world right now and he should get paid alot more then we think.I dont believe that you or I would be able to handel it and I believe God put him in office because he could. God bless his Children all over the world. This fight is not about flesh and blood its about spirituality...it always was and always will be and people who choose not to find out about God......you loose and God wins

May 18, 2007, 6:16 p.m.Bush supports timetables look:
"Victory means exit strategy, and it's important for the president to explain to us what the exit strategy is."
-- George W. Bush, 4/9/99, criticizing President Clinton for not setting a timetable for exiting Kosovo.
"I think it's also important for the president to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn."
-- George W. Bush, 6/5/99

May 18, 2007, 7:59 p.m.As most responsible sources reported the story, the Democrats insisted on a timetable but said the President could waive the deadlines. They are still trying to avoid responsibility for this war. Picture the red and blue donkey logo with the caption "These Colors DO run."
Shameless partisanship when national interests are at stake.

May 18, 2007, 8:17 p.m.Saddam needed to be removed at all costs. Problem is Americans didn't understand the culture prior to action. This country will not function unless they are oppressed or the US allows oppression to happen. This is the way it works.
In order for US to succeed, they need to go to a village, wipe it out, with the threat they will do others. Once this happens, all muslim resistance will stop.

May 18, 2007, 8:31 p.m.Ahh well the war is a mess, no question about that.. Bottom line is though WHAT CHOICE DO WE HAVE NOW!!! Bottom line, if you democrats think we are leaving IRAQ anytime soon, please check yourselves into a mental instituition and not one of higher learning!!! We are in Iraq, we are going to remain there FOR A LONG TIME!!! Now with that being said why dont we focus on getting our troops what they need.... That would be the AMERICAN THING TO DO!!!! Dont play politics on our soldiers backs... They deserve better then that... They deserve EVERY DAMN THING WE CAN POSSIBLY GET THEM!!!! I myself am not a big fan of this war, but IM disgusted with the democrats lack of actions... Guess thats why there approval rating is as low as the Presidents, in some poles much lower!!!!

May 18, 2007, 8:44 p.m.Shame on the dirty liberal Democrats, caving in to the arrogant moron from Texas. The Democrats think we elected them to enact their readical left-wing agenda into law, but they were put in office to end the war and because they were the only alternative to the Republican crooks. The Democrats will learn their lesson when they are booted out in 2008.

May 18, 2007, 10:22 p.m.following the devastation of europe by wwII, the allies chose not to repeat the mistake of WWI, which left germany desperate and poor and looking for a resolution to their problems in the violence of their old glory, by having a plan. the European Recovery Plan AKA the Marshall Plan.
The short version of this plan was to loan money to the countries we just defeated (think mission accomplished) so that they could strengthen their economies by rebuilding their infrastructure and purchasing goods from us. at the same time we slowly withdrew troops from their nations. on a timetable. a publicly established timetable (by timetable I mean using benchmarks more than dates)
as a result those countries involved in the Marshall plan flourished through 1951 (when it ended). those that werent (eastern europe, spain, japan) took much longer to recover. (japan-when korean war started, spain-when they fought commies; we invested)
iraq needs a marshall plan

May 18, 2007, 11:58 p.m.You don't decide to go to a war, and then encourage your enemy to fight against you!
You stand behind the initial decision [and the Democrats DID agree on our going to war] and do everything you can to make sure the enemy "knows this whole nation is SOLID against them and COMMITTED to beating them", no matter what it takes!
That is how you demoralize the enemy and it is the least we can do in support of our soldiers.
That is how you win a war!
What the Democrats have done, and are still doing, IS encouraging the enemy to keep fighting and killing our soldiers. There is a simple word for that - TRAITOR

May 19, 2007, 12:43 a.m.Veri...my man..you're right. What we need to do is kill more Iraqis, as many as possible. To do that we need money. What are the Dems afraid of? What's a little more bloodshed gonna hurt? Damn Dems!
