May 19, 2007, 10:03 p.m.Carter's administration was beset with problems, but he has redeemed himself as an ex-president, and I think his criticisms of the current administration are valid.

May 19, 2007, 10:05 p.m.Bush's approval ratings are at an all time low, comparable to those of Jimmy Carter back in 1979. President Carter's administration was beset with problems, but he has redeemed himself as an ex-president and elder statesman. I think his criticisms of the current administration are valid.

May 19, 2007, 11:13 p.m.Carter did NOT appeal to the Patriotism of thousands of young American men and women....only to feed them into a bottomless meatgrinder!

May 19, 2007, 11:40 p.m.Truth hurts!
This truth hurts even more because it comes from someone who has spent his life after Presidency to do something worthwhile to the people of the world and bringing peace.
Somebody had to strip the facade of smokes and mirrors from this incompetent and arrogant person who has brought death and destruction to hundreds of thousands of innocent people, and expose him for what he really is - a shrimp with the ego of a shark!
For doing that outstanding service, we owe him a debt of gratitude!
Thank you, Jimmy Carter!

May 19, 2007, 11:49 p.m.Jimmy Carter is right with his comments and I agree with him completely. Bush's policies in the Middle East are failed and his Iraq war is devastating. We need to accept certain realities; in particular, our troops are dying and the only way to spare their lives for sure is to bring them home.
Bush is arrogant and bullheaded. Two awful qualities in a president.

May 19, 2007, 11:54 p.m.Jimmy Carter always had a better rating than dumbya. He almost beat Reagan in spite of being set up. He inherited a messed up economy that was still recovering from Vietnam, and had it on the road to recovery. The most expensive gas ever sold once you adjust for inflation came under Reagan, not Carter. And Carter won the Nobel Peace prize. Compare that to little bush.

May 19, 2007, 11:56 p.m.Jimmy Carter needs to stay retired and keep his big mouth shut. Who cares what he thinks...his legacy was pathetic and it is only after he left the presidency that anyone thought he had anything of value to say. When did he become legitimate? Remember his button-down sweaters when he addressed the nation...this was the most powerful man in the world...jeez, where's his credibility and remember the oil crisis...that was the saddest Christmas that I remember...never saw so many homes without lights before or since...where does he get off criticizing? Go pick some peanuts with Rosalyn and Amy...

May 20, 2007, 12:05 a.m.Carter in my opinion is one of the most intelligent presidents of recent times.
And Bush.... well, not so much.

May 20, 2007, 12:05 a.m.I recall Jimmy Carter's "attempt" to free the hostages. What a joke! Plus, does anybody remember his "I consulted my daughter Amy to get her opinion on nuclear weapons" comment (or something related to nuclear power)? Oh, and what about interest rates hitting the high teens? And the Senate begging him to lead??
As president, Carter was downright scary!!

May 20, 2007, 12:11 a.m.How ironic that the worst president in history would be calling this one the worst. Then he gives his worthless opinion on Reagan....If either Reagan or Nixon ran against Carter they'd win again even though they're dead. His senile dimentia had a grip on him before he left office. He couldn't lift Bush's jock strap.

May 20, 2007, 12:29 a.m.Carter I think was a sub-par president & I voted against him twice, however he is right on in his critism of Bush.
Bush is a terrible president and I'm ashamed to say I voted for him in 2000. I can state without any fear of responsible contradiction that this guy lowered the bar of the highest office in the land. It is almost impossible to overstate how disastrous the Bush II years have turned out to be for the country and for that matter the Republican Party which I have voted for in every election from 1972 except 2004.

May 20, 2007, 1:13 a.m.I agree that you can't defend bush he's been terrible & you can't rationally defend an indefensible presidency, but I disagree with the comments about NIXON. Nixon bought more inate attributes needed for a successful presidency than most.
He did some great things, opened up China stood up to Breshnev like a real statesmen and he was an enlightened conservate but not an idealogue. He won the 72' election by more votes than any other president in history over 18,000,000.
He tried to cover up a silly burglary and if he didn't he might have gone down in history as an upper echelon leader.

May 20, 2007, 12:34 a.m.The most telling speech of Carters ignomious presidency was his America is in a malaise speech,I'm sure we who survived his "it wasn't me" presidency will never be able to express our relief when Reagan smacked him down taking 90.89% of the electoral college in 1980,and of course reelection in 1984 with 97.58% of the electoral college.

May 20, 2007, 1:15 a.m.Why is it that when Bush's ratings get low the NeoCon's start picking on Carter? I guess if you got a big time looser on your hands its best to divert the attention elsewhere..go Faux News. Bush has a face that only Luvmyprez could luv...and perhaps his dawg.
Maybe Carter wasn't a great president, but he is a great man. Bush only talks the talk, Jimmy walks the walk.

May 20, 2007, 2:06 a.m.This story is about former president Carters comments therefore his credibility or rather lack of same is central to guaging the weight that the lefty dictator hugging ex prez has to say.So his failed presidency and total repudiation of his competence and lack of leadership abilities by the American people in 1980 is very salient.Has any incumbant ever been so completely rejected as he was in his failed re-election bid?

May 20, 2007, 2:12 a.m.carter's a class act but we didn't need him to tell us what the vast majority of the world already knows: bush is the worst president ever.
