Global warming debunked »

Climate change will be considered a joke in five years time, meteorologist Augie Auer told the annual meeting of Mid Canterbury Federated Farmers in Ashburton this week.

Pretty funny, everyone in the world can see what's going on, then one idiot that no one has heard of says something contradicting it, citing no facts, and the "there is no global warming" crowd comes out like Jesus Christ Himself was calling their names. Works every time. Never mind the other 10,000 guys, this one agrees with me, so he must be right. They're as pathetic as the tinfoil hat crowd.

I'm hoping someone is taking down their names so we can kill them and use them for food when the time comes.

Here are two things wrong with Auer's argument.

        1. While it is true that water vapor is by far the most prevalent of the greenhouse gases, the level of water vapor in the atmosphere is also increasing because of the rising temperature. Warm air is able to hold more water vapor than cold air. Thus, warmer temperatures are contributing to the levels of the very substance the Auer says is the most responsible greenhouse gas.

        2. If I have a gallon jug full of water (the atmosphere) that is just one cup from being full and I add one teaspoon of water at a time (human impact), assuming that no water is leaking (Carbon saturation, which we are rapidly approaching) the jug will eventually overflow (global climate change).

        It is simply common sense.

              a) climate change is real- there have been several ice ages which means warming periods in between, witness the dinosaurs. so there is no question about climate change. there is a question as to human impact on climate change.

              b) it is true that water vapor traps heat. it is true that green house gases trap heat. it is true that these things are neccesary for life to exist on earth. a basic science class will teach you this. this can be represented as an equation (as done by Dr. Auer)

if you have x plus y plus z=A degrees and then humans start changing the amount of z that has to have an effect on A degrees. doesnt it? and since we're dealing with nature, doesnt that have to have a cyclical affect on the rest of the equation?

whats up Luv? love the way you poke with a stick.

"The Greens are really going to go after you because you put out 49 per cent of the countries emissions. Does anybody ask 49 per cent of what? Does anybody know how small that number is?

                "It's become a witch-hunt; a Salem witch-hunt," he said.

Now poor Al is going to have to take his private jet to the MacDonalds in Salem. He'll have to use his broom to sweep this under the rug.

I think the title is misleading, I don't see that "global warming" is debunked. I see one reasonably well-credentialed person taking issue with the idea that mankind is a significant factor in the global climate change that we are experiencing.

Honestly, it's hard for me to take faith in a fellow named "Augie"...remains me of the old cartoon Auggie Doggie. :) Just kidding.

As you may know, I'm an agnostic on "human caused" global warming and certainly don't agree with carbon credits ala Gore.

I did, however, read an interesting thought in a book called "Hidden Nature" which discussed the following:

It discussed what it takes in oxygen to "aspirate" conbustion engines. It anticipated that the normal engine used as much oxygen in 1000 miles that a person would use breathing in a year.

This means that if there are a billion vehicles or engines in the world which ran the equivalent of 1000 miles, it would be the same as having 12 billion more people on earth.

Every discussion I have heard has been about "exhaust", not aspiration. Any comments.

It's not that global warming is in dispute, it's the extent that humans are contributing to it.

We've had global warming before, when the ice age finally disappeared. Which is how, by the way, the Great Lakes were formed.

And that was way before humans were around.

                              Here's some recently received stats:

5/19/2007 - 9:17 AM EST - US carbon emissions dropped sharply by 14% when this article shut Al Gore up.

5/19/2007 - 9:53 AM EST - US carbon emissions shot back up by 17% after calls by Al Gore to his support group, who assured him this was not another 'lock box' scenario, gave the former Presidential candidate the courage to pursue and surpass his previous hot air output.

Here's the only thing you need to know about carbon emissions: They're like government spending, they never go down (barring a HUGE catastrophe). Any marginal conservation attempts made by the West will be blown away by China and India. Look at China alone, what are we going to do when 750,000 air conditions are online, tell them to knock it off?

The real winner is going to be the one who comes up with a way to allow us to live with ever increasing emissions. At that point, business will have come through for us, again, and Libs will be pis5ed by that. As it should be.

                                    using Auers figures

                                    greenhouse gases:

                                    95% H2Ovapor plus 3.6% CO2 plus 1.28% other gases plus .12% human contribution = 100%

these are the types of gases required to keep the earth warm enough for life, by reflecting light and internal heat back to the surface.

now, if that .12% keeps increasing, what happens to the equation?

remember, the more heat, the more liquid water evaporates into vapor. the % might remain the same in relation to each other, but the quantities will increase. thus increase the amount of heat and light they reflect. thus making it hotter, thus ...

                                                Okay, what about this:

"One of Earth's most important absorbers of carbon dioxide (CO2) is failing to soak up as much of the greenhouse gas as it was expected to, scientists say.

The decline of Antarctica's Southern Ocean carbon "sink" - or reservoir - means that atmospheric CO2 levels may be higher in future than predicted.

These carbon sinks are vital as they mop up excess CO2 from the atmosphere, slowing down global warming."
