On Friday, LG Electronics said it will scale back on production of its PDP (plasma display panel) screens later this year in order to improve the business performance of its display operations.

    I would venture a guess that the other reason is that people are realizing that HDTV is currently about 10% of the tv programming. So your expensive LCD, PDP tv is still watching 90% STD programs. It's not worth it at this point.
