She was 14, an eighth grader who loved junk food and watching Court TV with her mother and had recently written a poem beginning: "I am black and beautiful. I wonder how I will be living in the future."
"I never thought something like this could happen here in L.A.," said her mother, Charlene Lovett, fighting tears.
Cheryl's killing last month, which the police said followed a confrontation between the gang members and a black man, stands out in a wave of bias-related attacks and incidents in a city that promotes its diversity as much as frets over it.

Sorry little bastards with no brains and violent behavior, they have to target somebody to get their jollies. As far as I am concerned, there should be a bounty on gang members.

May 19, 2007, 3:42 p.m.Every other day I had black students coming to class crying over the loss of a friend. Until recently, it was assumed the black kids "had it coming" and must have been gang memmbers themselves, but that was racist propaganda, accepted wholeheartedly by the whites in LA, who happen to hate Latinos just a little less than they hate blacks.
More often than not, even in the most liberal crowds, I heard people say, "let them just kill each other off". Well, I am sorry, these black kids were Americans defending their lives and the Latino gangs are targeting the best and brightest of blacks who are competing for the same jobs.

May 19, 2007, 5:13 p.m.The animosity between blacks and latinos in the city ghettoes is the typical competition between two ethnic minorities fighting for the scraps left over under the table.
The poor, blacks and latinos, are competing for the same rat infested rental units in the same ghettoes, the same low paying jobs and the same seats in the broken down educational system.
These are the bottomfeeders fighting each other for what little they can scavenge at the bottom of the economic scale.
This particular article focus on latin gang violence, however there are equally violent and racist black gangs targeting innocent latinos; the cops mostly look away and could care less and the rest of the population is just glad that the drive by shootings dont take place in their neighborhoods.
This is true in LA, Chicago, New York City and any other large metropolitan area where poor latinos and poor blacks struggle to survive in the same rat infested ghettoes.

Part of LA's probelem - the mayor - keeps LA a "sanctuary city." Sanctuary cities have policies of refusing to alert Immigration and Customs Enforcement when city personnel knowingly come in contact with illegal aliens.
"An LA police officer may recognize a known gang member walking on the street - one who is suspected of multiple murders and has previously been deported after being caught for violent crimes - yet the officer is not allowed to apprehend the criminal based on the fact that the person has broken U.S. immigration laws

May 19, 2007, 5:37 p.m.Why is there so much racial hatred? I may be an idealist, but we are all in this world together. If we stop all this hatred, the world would just be a nicer place to live in. I am very tolerant of everyone or at least I try to be. I am not a perfect person but I just hate racism, hate, drugs, abuse, crime and ignorance. Enough is enough.

Many black women raise their children while the father is absent and not contributing to the raising of their children. Ok, you will say here it comes a, bigot. No I am being pragmatic, the asian community has been here in America long after slavery yet they have the highest educational level then, "Whitey".
Yes, their has been gains within the black community but they have been minimal considering the entire African Community. Blame parental guidence and values within their culture since many advantages have been afforded to them.
The Mexican gangs are just taking advantage of this truism and will become the next parriah for Americas future generation. It's a shame the blacks have not assimilated but like the Asians who have greater family values in the end the Mexicans will become assimilated without the excuse of slavery to condone their predicament.

And you know who supports every Drug Cartel or traffic gang(Mexican, Colombian, Asiatic, etc), right, consumers and adictcs; 75 percent of USA population over 15 yr, admits use or has been user at least one kind of illegal drug. Think, who is the most interested to continue this system?

I love how you omit the word "poor" when Nahual refered to poor blacks and latinos, but graciously kept "blacks and latinos" leaving the average idiot to believe that Nahual said something racist. May 19, 2007, 8:37 p.m.Nelson, perhaps you're having trouble posting your comments because you are a gray crayon. Ever heard of the cast system? Look it up, it's a system that has been used in damn near every country (yes, even in South America and mexico) in which those with darker skin are treated badly, or not allowed to wear certain jewelry, or read, or "Step out of line" intellectually or physically (by attempting to fix your hair, wear jewelry, etc). This is based on skin color, alone. Are you unaware of the Native mexicans who are treated so badly in Mexico? African americans, Puerto Ricans, and others have to deal with skin color bias. In America, asian people are not seen as nearly as much of a threat.
