Sicko is Socko »
Posted by: david_nwpa 2 years, 7 months agoThese days it's almost too easy to make fun of the President; he's a lame duck who needs medical attention, and fortunately he can afford it. (And if he couldn't, his bills would be paid for by the people, as is the health care of all Senators and Congressmen.)

May 19, 2007, 6:10 p.m.It is important to consider this movie in a positive light as this article from Time Magazine does effectively.

May 19, 2007, 6:17 p.m.Sicko traces the birth of the privatized health system to Richard Nixon, who in 1971, on one of the White House tapes, noted that the scheme would work for insurance companies "because the less care they give 'em, the more money they make."
;';'
Now that truly is a SICKO way to think....
thank god he Quit.
If only G Baby would.

May 19, 2007, 7:50 p.m.Health care in the US is no longer second to none as it was after World War II. Our nation's decline is not due to a lack of medical personnel as President Bush claims. Instead the two major causes of medical cost increases in the US seem to be malpractice insurance and fraud. Why is it an aspirin in a drug store costs $4.95 for a bottle of 100, but in the hospital it can cost close to $20 for two tablets?

May 19, 2007, 10:28 p.m.Moore is all about the stunt and show.
Betcha the mockumentary doesn't even mention research and development-- the entire reason why our wonder drugs even exist.
Bush said that line about OB-GYNS that we all laugh at because thanks to ambulance chasers like John Edwards, the OB-GYNS were getting the pi$$ sued out of them. It was getting to the point where you couldn't see one if you needed one.
There's two sides to every story. Sicko, you can count on, will be strictly ONE sided.

May 20, 2007, 12:44 a.m.Michael Moore may not be popular, but in this instance, he's right. A study released today found that the USA spends more on health care than any other nation on earth, yet our overall rating (longevity, infant mortality, etc.) places us right smack at the bottom of the developed nations.

May 20, 2007, 5:18 a.m.I don't go to movies in theaters much, but SICKO I will see. I like giving my money to a cause, Michael Moore is the example of that cause and the voice that speaks - for me! God Bless his balls! He validates and educates. Yes, he has an agenda, but it is always with good intention. I love the guy, and he speaks of experience I can relate to - every time! GO Michael!

May 20, 2007, 8:59 a.m.Moore is a showboater, for sure. Yet his jeremiads hit home because they're full of home truths.
Always amusing to see those who swallow the Ann Coulter shtick whole and without a blink rail against Moore's tactics....

May 20, 2007, 10:36 a.m.I have not seen any of Moore's movies but I think I'll check this one out. From reading the article it seems that it may be both informative and entertaining. I know some of "W's" ever shrinking minions will be on here soon to trash the thread simply because it is about Moore so I thought I would get my 2 cents in early.

"I love the guy, and he speaks of experience I can relate to - every time! GO Michael!"
I agree. Michael Moore sheds light on the corrupt politics of our daily lives when nobody else will touch it. Like him or not, he's one of the few people who can scare the bejeebers out of our elected politicians. For that alone, he is necessary. I applaud him.

May 20, 2007, 12:01 p.m.The US has the sickest healthcare system in the modern world...with all the money and wealth it has, it still can't come up with a single payer system to help everyone at reasonable cost.
Thanks to greedy corporations and sympathetic Govt, around 46 million people don't have health ins.
It's time for a change and who else but Michael Moore to give our elected officials a swift kick up the pants to do the right thing.
I'm looking forward to seeing the film

May 20, 2007, 2:33 p.m.Wellll....once again...mucho graseass to Time rag.....thank you for your left wing slant on everything bad about America. What time forgot to print was Castro went to Spain for his surgery. Medical care is so good in Cuba, he had to travel half way around the world to seek help... Thanks michael moore.....Tell us about how you traveled to Cuba?? Was it legal?? I'm sure we wont hear about that in Time!!
Time...how many trees had to die for your lies?? How's your readership doing?? Little down??

May 20, 2007, 2:41 p.m.Like Moore or not, doesn't matter.......US Healthcare is good, but it certainly needs change to make it worldclass and be available to all.

May 20, 2007, 2:45 p.m.If some of you people would read further then Time mag. And really look into how many people are really uninsured it say "at any point in 2004, 46 million people we without insurance". At any point means, people were changing jobs and were without health insurance for sometime, maybe 3 to 6 momths. The true figure is between 7 to 18 million people without insurance and most of the can quilify for indigent care. If I remember right during the 2004 debates between Bush and Kerry. The 1st debate Kerry quoted the 46 mill uninsured, them in the 3rd debate he only said 7 million. Too bad Bush didn't pick up on it. What happened??

May 20, 2007, 4:59 p.m.WAY TO GO, MICHAEL MOORE !!!!! Stick it in their smug faces, shove it up their over-fed bottoms and shout it from the rooftops!!!!!! The health care system in this supposedly civilized U.S.A. is truly no better than that of Third World Countries. This is a crying shame when people have to choose how to spend their hard-earned money or social security (ha!ha! ha!..what a joke!!).... on medication or food !!!!
This article and the movie "Sicko" tell it like it is...Thank you, Michael Moore!!!

May 20, 2007, 5:08 p.m.The easiest and biggest target is that sumo wrestler Michael Moore. He thinks he knows what he's talking about and acts like he's benefitting this country. All he really is is a couch potato w/an oversized mouth. If Moore knows so much why doesn't he become prez and do something about these problems. That would be a big joke.

May 20, 2007, 6:08 p.m.Sure, go ahead..make fun of someone trying to educate the ignorant. Michael Moore has more guts than anyone I know. I wonder how many here at this site would put their life on the line to truly serve a great cause.

May 20, 2007, 9:34 p.m.Gosh, M. Moore brings up a known fact of a corrupt administration and health care system yet the neocons accept what is.
Did you neocons really have a mother. Better yet do you feel any sympathy for the less fortuate or in your mindset, are they all shiftless?
