The Pope made his comments in a message for the Roman Catholic Church's World Day of Communications, whose theme this year is "Children and the Media: A Challenge for Education".

Now if he would only condem the sex practices in his church he would be on the right road.

I think the Pope should clean up his "own house" before calling another's dirty.

Is sex all this man thinks about? Thousands of kids dying every day. Homeless, desperate, hungry people all over the world, and not a peep. But SEX is his priority.

If the Pope doesn't like sex and violence, then he should not be watching that show. They have many different channels for a reason and if one offends you find another. Shouldn't he be focusing on pedophilia and the like.

"How could one explain this 'entertainment' to the countless innocent young people who actually suffer violence, exploitation and abuse?" he asked in the message.

              He didn't mean from priests?

I noticed that while reading this, I didn't experience the blinding, white-hot flash of rage that I usually do while reading religious propaganda. I think I have grown soft for the Catholics... shame on me.

We had to be protected from Imus, but the Pope makes a comment about the rest of the raw sewage in the media, and people get upset?

The media, says the pope, should "promote human dignity, marriage and the family."

Well, tough to argue against human dignity--whatever that means EXACTLY--but whose marriage and which family? Let me answer my own question: the godfearing one-man one-woman marriage--and the family that consists of the above plus its 1.5 offspring.

But what about nontraditional marriages, unions, and families--that of, say, close friends bound through mutual need, love and attention?

It's the narrowness of acceptability that makes Catholicism irrelevant, and the pope, as its main squeeze, ditto.
