Posted by: Beau7890 2 years, 5 months ago

The Riviera Courts motel is crumbling away and nobody seems to care. Once a stop along Route 66, the 2,400-mile neon carnival that connected hundreds of communities from Chicago to Los Angeles, this late-1930s Mission Revival is just a weather-worn building on the side of a country road in far northeast Oklahoma.

I remember driving the entire length from Chicago to L.A. along Route 66 about 25 years ago. Though much of the old Lincoln Highway had already been replaced by the interstate highways, there was still quite a bit of local color. It was a great trip. I feel fortunate to have seen so much variation among localities before the country became so homogenous.

Yeah interstate highways will do that. Notice how they also lead you to offramps that direct you to a limited veriety of choices.. every offramp is McDonalds, Shell and Wendys.. up here in Canada it's a Tim Hortons.

It's ashame Ma and Pa shops can't survive in that off ramp market.

I collect postcards of old motels, gas stations and all that, it's sad to see them go. You don't get the same feeling going to a chain.

The way gas is going up in price. We will be riding horse and buggies again. And all of these old spots will get a rejuvantion. Since the old Route 66 would be used again cause of them horse and buggy.
