Posted by: populist 2 years, 5 months agoSo why do billions of people around the world hate America so much? "Obviously", it's because of our freedom, our prosperity, and our democracy. How do I know? Because George Bush told me so. What other reason could foreigners have for resenting America?

May 22, 2007, 12:03 p.m.they hate us because we meddle in their affairs, base our military in over 120 countries around the world, stage coups, back assassinations, prop up dictators with billions and billions in 'foreign aid' ...and much much more.

May 22, 2007, 1:13 p.m.Hmmmmmmmmm,it wouldn't be our abridging of the electorial rights, interfering in other countries internal affiars, hypocracy regarding supporting terrorism, unfair farm subsides and raping them of their natural resources for our corporate gain.
Just a thought

May 22, 2007, 1:22 p.m.You know, I didn't think we'd ever find common ground. This is weird and I am going to make myself a cocktail. Oh and I tried to give your previous comment a good rating

May 22, 2007, 2:27 p.m.We have the capacity to do many constructive, positive things, but many choose to simply ignore the facts and plan for a future, they would rather watch TV. They cannot see past the next episode of their lives, nor do they care to.

When was the last time you saw any news channel aside from FOX news say anything good about the United States!!! Let me know and I will correct myself...

May 22, 2007, 3:08 p.m.After visiting 50 countries on six continents, I conclude that people around the world LOVE Americans. I trust my own observations over the bullcrap I'm fed by TV/govt.
In contrast, people around the world universally find the US govt an appalling and grotesque misrepresentation of its wonderful people. Our own govt discourages travel because they don't want you to figure this out. Our own govt wants us to be fearful of the "evil brown people who want to blow us up." Don't be punked.
At the face-to-face grass-roots level, 99,9% of all people I've met are kind, respectful and sympathetic with American citizens. Go see for yourself.

May 22, 2007, 4:07 p.m.It's not "we the people" per se' .
It's corporate interest, it's pac money, payoffs, greed, misrepresentation. It's the dishonest, the power hungry, in any group, in both parties, that ruin it for everyone. In general, most American's have little influence to control the Bush's, the Kennedy's, Johson's, Kissinger's etc.
It takes civil disobedience, activism, and organisation to even have the smallest impact on the internal workings of govt' - any gov't.
It doens't mean it's not worth trying either. People have to be peacefully engaged in their own political process, regardless of the country the live in.
Anyone who hates Americans, hates themselves. We're all the same. We're all trying to make better lives for ourselves, without negatively impacting those around us. At least the majority of the Americans I know.

May 22, 2007, 4:29 p.m.I have always found that alot of the people who hate us will suddenly change thier mind when you flash a visa under there nose. Then they'll "rent" their mother out to you just to be your friend.
It's mostly that people don't like the guy at the top. People like to root for the underdogs. And then you have people like AbuAmirah and Populists, who need someone or thing to hate and blind themselfs to facts so they can hold on to thier venom. They cannot enjoy the simple plesure in life. They need create false illusions so they pump up thier low self esteem while trying to convince people and themselves that they and only they know the answers to all the problems in life and the world. And who and why all these things occur. So in their mind it gives them self worth. It's sad really. To watch (read) people wallow in their self induced pool of hate and envy.

May 22, 2007, 4:23 p.m.We must be doing something right then. We Americans must learn to expect, not lament, your hostility, and begin to worry that things would be indeed wrong if such unelected dictators praised the United States.
When Europe orders all American troops out; when China cites unfair trade with the United States; when South Korea says get the hell off our DMZ; when India complains that we are dumping outsourced jobs on them; when Egypt, Jordan, and the Palestinians refuse cash aid; when Canada complains that we are not carrying our weight in collective North American defense; when the United Nations moves to Damascus; when the Arab Street seethes that we are pushing theocrats and autocrats down its throat; when Mexico builds a fence to keep us out; when Latin America proclaims a boycott of the Major Leagues; and when the world ignores American books, films, and popular culture, then perhaps we should be worried. But something tells me none of that is going to happen in this lifetime.

May 22, 2007, 4:24 p.m.'Why Do They Hate Us So Much?'
'So why do billions of people around the world hate America so much?'
Is this Really a Fact??? Of course the Islamic Nuts Do, but as far as Euro is concerned, Who Really Hates America??
Most Countries around the world will call Upon the good Nature of the American People to Help them in any situation they may have??? Americans have helped more countries around the world than any other Country in History???
The writer of this Artical is really not forthcoming...
Why, do Americans keep falling for this BS????

May 22, 2007, 5:31 p.m.You ever heard of a logical fallacy called ad hoc ergo proctor hoc...It means hat sometimes things are unconnected dispite coincidental similarities or unconnected facts...Some people are undoubtedly jealous but the idea that people make war on us because their ******ed about good roads and afternoon ball games is junior high logic...some of it is because of things we have done...in Iran in chile etc..we do support dictators and for economic reasons
The idea that were are responsible for all the worlds ills is also silly equally some people are just ignorant and mean...some leaders do need a security delimna to maintain their hold on power and justify their egocentric view of the world

May 22, 2007, 5:38 p.m.Our problem is the negative garbage the politicley driven news media puts out. At the very least they are socialistic. They seem to hate the United States under the guise of wanting to make it better but have no solutions but plenty of negative BS about this country. They are 90 per cent responsible for giving this country a bad rep. The media has portrayed most other countries in dim light and now all of a sudden we are arrogant. There are other countries that are arrogant with us but if you listen listen closely you will hear a hateful jealousey mixed in with their arrogance. In reality we have as many ignorant people as they do who are feed by the media.

May 22, 2007, 6:23 p.m.Maybe it's because multi-national corporations, many of which still carry their original american names, although they are majority foreign owned and controlled, are going into these countries and exploiting their cheap labor and national resources, while not showing any respect for their cultures which have many times survived much longer than ours has or ever will, and trashing their environment. All so they can ship radios, watches, and various other trinkets all the way around the world and sell them for $3.oo at Walmart, Big Lots, etc... That price doesn't even cover the shipping. You tell me someone over there isn;t getting royally screwed!!!

May 22, 2007, 6:50 p.m.Why does the author have a problem with our troops being stationed around the world? What lesson did he learn from the first and second world wars รข;; that other nations are inherently peaceful and, if left alone, will cause no trouble to ourselves?
Prudence dictates that we be as cautious as possible.
Why doesn't the author list the history of transgressions of Germany? If the hatred coming from people around the world is due to our past, why is Germany not hated to the same degree as we are?
The truth is that they do resent us because of our prosperity/ achievements.

May 22, 2007, 7:55 p.m.This Harry Browne is an idiot. His article exemplifies convoluted logic. There are as many reasons for any one group of foreigners to hate the U.S. as there are groups that hate us. Never the less, jealousy, envy, and bias (racial, political, religious, & etc) are certainly high on the list of reasons.

May 22, 2007, 8:02 p.m.To answer your question of why our troops are stationed around the world. Its not cost effective, its an intrusion into another countries business like we did with the Shah in Iran by propping up a corrupt dictatorship. One example of many of meddling by you guessed right, us.
Who pays for all these troops around the world while Americas infrastructrue deteriorates, American taxpayers. Would you really adore the thought of our propping up despotic regimes and squandering trillions seeking admoration from countries who inwardly hate us? Who are you and where is your world policemen badge? Maybe you inherited it from one of our corporations who outsource American jobs and steal natural resources from another nation.
We can't even modernize our military, rebuild New Orleans, national health plan, home security and the list goes on. You would prefer draining our treasury in the delusional path of world dominance.

They hate us because we Support Israel which kills their children.
When Israel is gone perhaps we can make friends with the people who actually have something we need.
