Why is Marijuana Illegal? »

Posted by: ameliog 2 years, 5 months ago

Many people assume that marijuana was made illegal through some kind of process involving scientific, medical, and government hearings; that it was to protect the citizens from what was determined to be a dangerous drug. The actual story shows a much different picture.

Excerpt: "However, the first state law outlawing marijuana did so not because of Mexicans using the drug. Oddly enough, it was because of Mormons using it. Mormons who traveled to Mexico in 1910 came back to Salt Lake City with marijuana. The church was not pleased and ruled against use of the drug. Since the state of Utah automatically enshrined church doctrine into law, the first state marijuana prohibition was established in 1915. (Today, Senator Orrin Hatch serves as the prohibition arm of this heavily church-influenced state.)"

Another excerpt: In Texas, a senator said on the floor of the Senate: "All Mexicans are crazy, and this stuff [marijuana] is what makes them crazy."

Stupid, demagoguing, fear-mongering politicians have existed in all eras. We only seem to have a monopoly on them today.

According to the "Father of the drug war" Harry Anslinger in testimony to congress..."the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is it's effect on the degenerate races"

I don't want to sound trite, but I don't need hallucinatory drugs, illegal or legal to HELP me enjoy life. Those type of drugs are nothing but a crutch and a cop out. If they are strictly for medicinal purposes that's a different story.

I have epilepsy. no med has ever completely helped me. they alwayswant to give me a second med. which never fully helps either and leaves me in a stupor so bad I cant do math, remember peoples names, and sometimes have "temporary global amnesia" which is essentially having no idea where the fck you are. or does horrible damadge to my bowels.

so now I'm on one med., smoke pot on the weekends, my seizures are under control, and I can think straight. to the point that I went from being unable to maintain a job to being promoted twice in a year and being one month away from my masters degree.

yeah, marijuana is dangerous, and prescriptions are good, right! the fda knows what its doing.

Yeah, no one "needs" to get high on drugs, harbeas, but consider the following:Hemp produces more pulp per acre than timber on a sustainable basis, and can be used for every quality of paper. The hydrocarbons in hemp can be processed into a wide range of biomass energy sources, from fuel pellets to liquid fuels and gas.

Without any compelling reason or the required public notice, the DEA issued an Interpretive Rule banning hemp seed and oil food products that contain any amount of trace residual THC. Furthermore, industrial hemp remains legal for import and sale in the U.S., but U.S. farmers still are not permitted to grow it.

That's what the article is about. It's not about getting high.

The reason that marijuana is illegal, which the story fails to mention, is the illegitimate legislation of religious morality. Who do you think declared the war on drugs?

Has everyone written to your congressmen about The Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2007 HR 1099?
