Why the US Government Is Hated All Over the World »
Posted by: populist 2 years, 7 months agoSomething is wrong with the United States. I think most of us have noticed it. There is a mortal rot in the country, made manifest by many little rots that are hard to integrate mentally yet are, I think, somehow related. The change is grave, accelerating, probably irreversible, and fascinating. Things are not as they were.

May 21, 2007, 3:43 p.m.pretty simple - the US government bases its military in 120 nations, backs coups and assassinations, wages aggressive wars and has killed millions in the last few decades.
Anyone who thinks people wouldn't hate us after this is ignorant or a liar.
We need a new direction - one where we no longer do these things. Then and only then - will we have peace and prosperity in this country.

May 21, 2007, 4:14 p.m.So, people hate us because we are a strong determined people, and they would rather see us as weak tree hugging hippies ripe for the plunder.

May 21, 2007, 4:28 p.m.Because most of the world is run by dictators, crooks and gangsters who don't allow freedom because it will mess up the illegal business they are conducting.

May 21, 2007, 4:41 p.m.So, if we're so hated, why don't we bring home all our troops from every country, friend or foe. Then, stop all aid to these ungrateful countries, stop lending them money, call in all debts to us, bury our heads in the sand, and tell the rest of the world to kiss our a*s*s....I mean no aid money to ANY country, no help in disasters, NOTHING!!! Just tell them to go to Europe for help, or Russia, just stay the F*CK AWAY FROM THE USA!! Would this help you crybabies any? Just asking.....

May 21, 2007, 5:21 p.m.Let's take this point by point.
1. The US government now lives in its own, strange, insulated world.
What government doesn't?
2. The United States is the most militarily aggressive country on the planet, followed closely by Israel. I am aware of no other contenders.
Because the U.S. does it for all the other countries and they don't have to. What about the U.N.?
3. Powerful domestic hostilities grip the United States.
Comes with Free Speech & Democracy. (Riots in France? Oh yeah we don't talk about that)
4. A curious state of fear prevails in America.
When's the last terrorist crashed a plane into Mexico? Let up on security and you get flayed the next terrorist attack, it's a no win situation with people who want it all.
5. The bullying of people entering the US.
Same as above, give me solutions instead of gripes.
6. The Constitution really is going away, or has gone.
I actually agree that this one!

May 21, 2007, 5:32 p.m.This piece has some valid points though I would disagree with some. First, no country has such long lines, both legal and ILegal, to get in. You don't see long lines of people trying to get into China, Mexico, or anywhere else like you see with the US. So, the US must be good for some things.
Yes, we are disliked, even hated in may parts of the world. US foreign policy is not based on anything but practicality: if a government supports the US, even if it's a dictatorship (e.g., Saudi Arabia), they become our friends. If they oppose us, even if they are democratic (the way many Latin American countries have been throughout the last 50 years or so), they become our enemies.
We currently back Packistan, even though the president (Musharef) has dismissed the chief judge who threatenen to investigate him. In this country, we appoint special prosecutors (Watergate, Whitewater, and maybe someday federal judgegate) and investigate when we suspect our chief executive of wrong doing.

May 21, 2007, 5:43 p.m.The author thinks the US is the most military led country in the world! Wake up! The day Saddam became president he publicaly accused 66 baath party members of being traitors. Then within days handed a pistol to many of the regular party members to shoot the traitors in the head! This is like the democrats winning the White house then shooting rebulicans that they don't like! Within the year he attacked Iran the war cost more than 1,000,000 lives over the next decade. He killed between 300,000 to 600,000 Kurds and other disedents then raided Kuwait, killing thousands. He was a weapon of mass destruction. Buddy, do a search on Africa and see the various wars that cost millions of lives.
This war SAVED hundreds of thousands of lives that Saddam would have killed to stay in power. Do a little more research on the destruction he left behind.

May 21, 2007, 9:30 p.m.That poll has a "few" omissions...on top of that, nobody knows what went on during most of those presidents' terms...funny that you have to skew a poll to make it turn out GWB

May 22, 2007, 6:35 p.m.Funny thing is that if you took the same poll in 1863, and added Abraham Lincoln's name to it, he would have had probably 90% of the vote. Same goes for many other past Presidents in different times as well. Just because they are the worst today doesn't mean they will be the worst tomorrow. Not defending Bush or anything, but it's the truth.

May 21, 2007, 7:13 p.m.Well, I'm not certain I agree with all of what Fred says, but I do know in the US, courtesy has gone by the way of the toilet. Recently I work at a gaming store [I know, DREAM JOB]
and this woman came in with her kid. Well, the kid wanted to know about the new Resident Evil game for the 360, so I gave him the synopsis and nothing more.
When the mother suddenly pops off and starts berating me for 'undermining her parenting,' and I have to stop and think, if she was in a department store, she wouldn't even pull this stunt, but because it's a small place, she can do and say whatever the hell she wants in the name of 'protecting her child.' Then she gripes me out after pretending to purchase something to me. And you wonder why we're despised by other nations.
Staggers the imagination, doesn't it?

May 21, 2007, 8:01 p.m.I don't even have to read the article to answer this question.
"Why is the US Government hated all over the world?"
Wow, where to begin?
Economically, we drain 20% of the energy even though we only have 5% of the resources.
Socially, we are seen as vapid and illiterate.
People come to the US because of the damage our economic practices do to their countries, not because we are a 'bastion of freedom' (Though we are coming out of a mini dark-age).
Politically, we say one thing and do another. Sometimes we say 2 things to the same country and do completely opposite things.
We want the UN to fight low-intensity wars (like Darfur) yet we shortchange it.
Environmentally, we make a big mess, don't clean up, and bail out or ignore those responsible.
The government grandstands that the USA is the best country in the world, even though a boatload of polls, surveys, and data say otherwise.
Educationally, we think it's okay to only speak 1 language, while making others speak English.

May 21, 2007, 8:02 p.m.America has dilluted itself into thinking, "father knows best". Simple statement but it says it all.
We have become what other nations with despots have believed, forcing our will and values on another in the mistaken belief that we are the moral and righteous dictator for all norms on all nations. Meanwhile we have entered a steep slippery slope where backtracking is impossible.

May 21, 2007, 8:49 p.m.Just once I would like to see this country be proactive, and nuke iran right now...Then where will china gets it oil?? Where will Russia find another country to sell thier weapons to??.. I would be wiling to ride a bike to store, to hell with the car...Also--send each and every illegal alien scab laborer back home, and send the plane fare bill to the companys whos used them..Then fine each and every company who used them 10,000.00 dollars for each alien they used..finely, we must never re elect any politican..The companys were greedy, but our politicans were as crooked as cork screws...our pols are bought even before they are seated in office..

May 21, 2007, 9:05 p.m.10 years down the road, we will all see just how bad it really was in the White House.
The US will continue to be isolated by the rest of the civilized world and like the spoiled brat it has behaved like, will need time and deeds to regain trust.
A pure reflection of its leadership being in the place they are in.

May 21, 2007, 9:28 p.m.The article seems to be from someone's blog... or at best the personal rantings of someone. This is not from a reliable news source, and it really makes me wonder how & why it ended up on the homepage? I am confident there was many other news items that could have occupied this space.
Sink it!
