May 25, 2007, 9:57 p.m.A great day for the war against tyranny and terrorism!
This will be an especially poignant Memorial Day Holiday, despite the best attempts of defeatist democrats to trivialize and waste the sacrifices already made only so Pelosi and Reid can make political gains for the do-nothing party.

May 25, 2007, 10:02 p.m.Dubya is totally out of touch with reality.
"This effort shows what can happen when people work together," Bush said after a visit to wounded troops at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. "We've got a good bill that didn't have timetables or tell the military how to do its job, but also sent a clear signal to the Iraqis that there's expectations here in America ... about how to move forward."
This is hardly an example of people working together. Some Dems elected to cut short the fight for accountability to ensure that the troops had resources well in advance of their need. It's not a good bill and the bill per se does nothing to send the Iraqis a signal that will make them change their sectarian focus. This is especaily true in light of the second surge contingency plan.
What are we going to have left when this idiot finally leaves office?

May 25, 2007, 10:19 p.m.I am finally glad to see that the funding was finally approved. I understand each party's difference on Iraq, but when we have our fellow soldiers in harms way, we need to give them everything we can for support.
This opens the way for funding on the new MRAP vehicle to be better put to use. IED's cause over 70% of casualties in Iraq and at least we can push MRAP's out there to help save some lives. Our Humvees, even up-armored, are very ineffective against IED's. I was lucky enough to survive one attack, but the vehicle was completely destroyed.
However, I have seen an EOD MRAP Cougar take three separate IED blasts in a time spread of about 3 hours while trying to clear a stretch of road on MSR Tampa and survive them all, the only reason it disengaged was too many flat tires. No member of the crew had a scratch on them. That made an extreme believer out of me.

May 25, 2007, 10:24 p.m.If the Dems had a larger control over the House & Senate to over turn the president veto this war would be over! Fact is they do not! And this President is evil enough to let the troops say in this civil war, that he(Bush)created, with out any support!I'm an Independent but I voted for the Dems in hope that we could put enough Dems in the House to end this but maybe next time.I hate what is going on over in Iraq, we should not be there and we all no that! But to leave these innocent troops over there with out any support just to make a political statement is just plain crazy!!

May 25, 2007, 10:25 p.m.Blackmail pure and simple. The 9/11 coward, with urine running down his leg and his drawers full of runny yellow neocon crap, promised to veto any bill that did not give him EXACTLY what he wanted. And veto he did! So what choice? To cut off funds that would endanger the welfare of our troops who were sent over there hastily with inferior equipment and are doing their duty honorably and well is a choice impossible to make. I couldn't have done it. Dumbya, however, had no such compunctions in sending them over there knowing full well that there were no WMD's and that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. As a congressman, I would have voiced my disgust, voted yes on the measure as a support for our soldiers, and continued to explore ways to extricate our troops from that sewer that is Iraq. It's making the Bush clan and a lot of people billionaires and killing the finest of our youth. God bless our soldiers, goddam their, cowardly, idiotic, monomaniac war criminal commander-in-chief.

May 25, 2007, 11:14 p.m.Being a Canadian maybe I should not even be commenting on this but I have followed this war since day one. I am not in favor of this war but until a deadline is set to withdraw from Iraq it is nearly impossible for any politician not to support the troops and this should also be the same for the public. The military is doing a job and until something changes the protection of the troops and the avalibilty of resources for them is important if we want to see them come home safely, let us all hope that this war ends soon.

May 25, 2007, 11:16 p.m.Well now there is absolutely no reason to vote for a Republican. It looks like the Democrats nearly unanamously support the troops, so it is ok to vote the rest of the Republicans out. Now Bush/Cheney get to prove that their decisions were correct. With the current surge and the next one likely to follow in September, Bush should have his victory by October. He has the most powerful fighting force that has ever been assembled, with full funding, there should be no problems from here on.

May 26, 2007, 12:50 a.m.I wonder how many here are aware that a majority of the Iraqi Parliament signed a legislative petition asking for the U.S. to set a time-line for withdrawal?

May 26, 2007, 1:10 a.m.Sad, after all the grandstanding by the self aggrandizing by our self proclaimed Queen "Damascus Rose" Pelosi, she just folds up like a rusty lawn chair.
So much for the Democrats resolve and promise to the people.
All that trivial partisan crap for nothing...

May 26, 2007, 2:11 a.m.why does it seem to come down to the all mighty dollar? We americans need to come back from the dark side and realize that sometimes humanidty is worth more than money. I agree that there is alot of this in this country that need to be taken care of but the sacrafices that we have made already to keep the blood shed away from our own childern is worth that dollar. God bless our troops

May 26, 2007, 5:44 a.m.Bush says some of us are telling the soldiers " how to do their job". No doubt trying to create friction. No body is taking a rifle out of a soldiers hand. When the citizens say it's time to come home, then it's time to come home. Soldiers don't pick and conduct wars on their own. That's a job for our Representives. We haven't had a miltary take over have we? or did I miss something? Ir looks like Congress gave Bush too much of a blank check and now this country, the world, our tired soldiers, and the Iraquis will have to endure more tyranny from the White House but, we suffered thru depressions, diaster, and disease and we can tough out Bush.

May 26, 2007, 7:31 a.m.This sends a terrible message to the world - that we cannot admit our gross mistake, that we are willing to stand by and watch more Iraq Citizens bet butchered, that we do not care about or Soldiers, that one or two men (Bush Cheney) are allowed to stay in office even when they have broken Int'l Law on torture. Bush created this phony War and even after all the Trillions of dollars squandered, lives lost, long standing Int'l Allies turned off........we are letting him make matters worse. Shame on us!

May 26, 2007, 7:37 a.m.The American People in the last Elections and poll after poll have agreed with the rest of the world, this War is bogus, and it makes America look like a callous dumb bully who listens to no one. Not the Image or reality any American wants.

May 26, 2007, 8:33 a.m.Lib Press, CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, and the Print Media = Libs = Brainwashed horde = Last Elections... The war in Iraq = the war on terror... Actually Bush got it right! Dems are never for ANY WAR that lasts over 3 months! Dems have ABSOLUTELY no alternative other then pacifism to fight the Islamic Cult. Has any Dim come up with a solution for fighting the war on terror? NOT! Edwards and the Dims think the war on terror is a bumper sticker! Need I say more!

May 26, 2007, 10 a.m."Military men are just dumb stupid animals to be used as pawns in foreign policy." - Henry Kissinger
Kissinger is STILL calling some of the shots in this administration - he was called in to negotiate with China a week ago -
So, it seems like you have a much loftier perception of your role than do the people who send you off to fight and die.
How do you feel about that?

May 26, 2007, 1:43 p.m.It's the Constitution and the American way of life that are important. Our institutions are what we are protecting.
The President has put our troops in harms way and most Americans don't agree with it. Now get this straight- you are a soldier and expected to fight. We on the other hand are Americans citizens who must hold our President and administration accountable to the truth. This way lives are not sacrificed unnecessarily.
Now that makes more sense then nobody counts.

May 26, 2007, 9:23 a.m.Sold out, again. The democrats have now climbed into bed with the Bush administration, after all the chest pounding and BS promises, and contrary to why they were elected. It's time to finally face the facts that it's us against them, the american people vs the american politician. It doesn't get more obvious and gloomy. Eventually, there can be only one resolve, tear it down and start over. It's time for a new declaration of independence in this country, and this time I hope we make examples of how we should deal with ANY dirty politician, hang them all.

May 26, 2007, 10:05 a.m.Buried in the depths of that bill was a little paragraph upping the min. wage by $2.00 over the next two years. So, if bush doesn't want the min. wage upped, he has to veto the bill.........he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Makes him look like a fool either way!!!! Thank Goodness.
