We made the choice to give up control of our energy supply when we bought gas-guzzling SUVs. We made it when we embraced driving over other forms of transportation. We made it when we decided to drag our feet on developing alternative fuels. We made it when we didn't demand that Congress require better fuel efficiency from automakers. We made it when we elected leaders whose idea of conservation is reversing the spin of ceiling fans. We make it, too, when we oppose efforts to expand domestic drilling.

Great article, Stoners. I remember vividly sitting in science class in elementary school (early 60's) watching a PBS documentary produced for children that warned of the dire consequences of pursuing this path, still I believe industry"s control of government is largely to blame. Look at Brazil and

how they have become self sufficient. But to achieve this, they invested in the 1970s, the payoff coming 25-30 years later. Americans by and large said no to the gas guzzlers in the 1970's opting to buy more fuel efficient vehicles from Japan & Europe. U.S. manufacturers refused to retool and have suffered the consequences ever since. It was lobbyists

who bribed government into not legislating fuel efficiency.

Yes the people are to blame, mostly for allowing industry to use our government for sock puppets though.

"Why is it so hard for the governing body of world's leading example of free enterprise to grasp how markets work?"

          '

Thats easy. THEY DON'T CARE about the average citizens

who pay taxes. They only care about special interests,

and putting on dog and pony shows to make us think that

they actually do anything for their large salaries.

Look at The Great Emperor Stupidicus, for example. That

idiot had business's handed to him and he still bankrupted

almost every one of them. It seems that it is easy NOT to care when you are handed everything on a silver platter and the money that you waste is not yours to start with.

Replace the Democrat controlled congress? Gee, I thought when the libs took over the sun would always shine, the birds would always sing, sickness and death would stop, etc., etc., etc.

Of course, there were those of us who don't believe the drive-by media, and know these libs for what they are.

Go ahead and negatively rate my remarks, libs...your congress is failing...as if that's a surprise.

The beauty of taking OPEC to court would be that not only could OPEC be getting rich at our expense, but we could actually drive up the cost of oil and make a bunch of lawyers rich as well.

Hopefully some of our politicians could make some money for themselves as well

                GREAT PLAN

                WAY to THINK

Actually they are right, we can control our oil prices. But it will mean going to war and occupying every middle east country.

I don't think we want to do that. I am not sure we can.

Never put your eggs in one basket. We have allowed too many other countries & big corporations to monopolize the very things that kept Americans independent.

Where do I begin!!! How about Stoners deserves an award for posting this gem.

Congress has finally lost its collective mind. Apparently, Congress now agrees that commerce in the commerce clause really encompasses business practices and it does apply to foreign governments.

It's bad to dictate what government a nation will utilize, but it's A-OK to dictate another nation's business practices.

I can't wait for the first test of this legislation. It'll get bounced out of court in about three seconds, when the defense lawyer says that the case should be dismissed because the US has no jurisdiction over any OPEC members' business practices. The judge will say, "Yep. Case dismissed."

OPEC can collude all they want and the US can do nothing save for protectionist trade policy, heavy bribing, or bring out the guns. Besides Canada and Mexico are our chief oil pushers and are not members of OPEC. Are they giving us deep discounts?

Talk about a waste of time in Congress.
