'We were abandoned' (Canadian Snipers) »
Posted by: Jaydee40 2 years, 6 months agoAmong the American troops who served with the snipers, the viewpoint is unanimous. "These are the type of people that I would want to put up on a pedestal and say: 'This is the very best that we have to offer,' " Justin Overbaugh says. "I am not big on apologies, but if they are owed an apology, I hope that they get one. I am quite c

May 26, 2007, 5:20 p.m.Just goes to show how even we screw up every now and then. These boys did a fine job and showed the world you don't have to have the biggest military to be the best in the world and how do we repay them? That's Canada for you, can't offend anyone.

May 26, 2007, 5:21 p.m.I commented on this issue a month ago on how Canadian politics stink. For some reason our politicians always down plays our military, moraly, financily and any respect due to them.Harper's Gov was a boost but there is a long way to go.Our army may be small but they are still brave men who are not second rate.Good article Jaydee40!!

May 26, 2007, 8:03 p.m.I commend the Canadians but I discredit our politicians. War is not sanitary and our politicians know not of the acts committed by all sides. I wish I could lie and say that wars are fair and balanced, they are not. We are fighting an enemy who has no rules of engagement nor respect the Geneva Conventions. Afghanistan attacked America and the west without provocation so no matter how you spin it, Afghanistan is a noble cause and I would thank the Canadians for participating.
I find it abominable that these persecutions of soldiers in wartime are occuring when you factor in these two simple points,
Wars are inhuman.
Politicians have no idea of what they start.
I do not condone attrocities or inhuman acts but you must first take into consideration the time and place before accusing others you know nothing about. By the way Canada, thanks for not going to Iraq, Inane cause.
It must be really nice to be a saint who is righteous and all seeing who would judge another.

May 26, 2007, 10:10 p.m.Where did the finger and the sign come from? That's the weirdest bit of the whole deal. If they couldn't find the finger (should they have checked Wendy's?) or the sign, why'd they'd even bother'd with an investigation?

May 26, 2007, 10:20 p.m.Sadly this is the kind of thing that happens when soldiers have to be afraid to do the job they were sent to do because they have to fear what will happen to them if they do their job. When they have to constantly be concerned with what happens if they pull that trigger because the war is being run by people, politicans and lawyers, who are not concerned with winning the war and getting the troops home, but instead are looking for reasons to show the rest of the world just how "fair" we in the west are by having trials for people that should be considered heroes and not criminals. And the public, at least in the US, can say they support the troops, but it's no more than lip-service when things like this are allowed to happen and the people of Canada and the US are not screaming about how wrong it is to persecute, and proscecute, these brave men for just doing what they were sent to do, risk their lives to keep the rest of us safe.

May 27, 2007, 1:16 a.m.This is a sad testament to the politically correct mentality foistered on us by the disease ridden left. An overbearing example of what you get when you let politics control war. Let the soldiers murder the Islamic murderers and leave them be.
North America has the best and brightest military in the world and at the core are dedicated professionals. Who gives a crap about some rag-top corpse who already got what was needed? I think it's funny myself.
I will always support this war and these troops...to hell in a handbag with popular milk toast bitches who talk trash from the lap of luxury. Seemingly, those with the most to say about war are always the jokers who have never been in one.
Maybe, it's long past time for some people to just shut up.

May 27, 2007, 5:43 a.m.War stinks, but not as bad as our politicans. Politicians are mostly lawyers, and every one knows what lawyers are...Hard to go any lower than a politican..One defense--NEVER RE ELECT ANY POLITICAN...

May 27, 2007, 10:38 a.m.Any marksman that can hit a target over 2400 meters away should be able to cut off a finger (or two). But I draw the line at cutting off their heads and putting them on stakes. Well maybe if they can reach the 3000 meter mark that would be ok. Damn politicians always muck everything up.

May 27, 2007, 10:45 a.m.There is no point to that investigation. If someone crapped on a dead terrorist, or cut off a finger, or made a sign against terrorism, who gives a damn? Maybe that should be standard practice? Maybe the snipers should have a key ring full of fingers on their belts? Maybe they should leave a ham sandwich in the dead guys mouth too? We need to stop sending them into inhuman situations and expecting them to behave like proper schoolboys. This all smacks of correctism, the higher-ups back in Canada all saying, "Let's have tea and charge somebody today." Some of those office bound sh*t-disturbers need to be there in Afghanistan. Either that or get the boys out of that country all together.

May 27, 2007, 11:26 a.m.In many cases, I'd go as far as saying why wait until after their first term, during might be a better idea, how much better off would we be in the US without politicians like Kennedy. Sometimes I'm amazed at how much he isn't anything like his brothers were.

May 27, 2007, 11:01 a.m.One more sad example of a true hero and honorable man being thrown to the Wolves in the name of Political correctness!
War is nasty... and i really don't care what is done to a body once it is dead! Let the terrorist meet Allah and the virgins waiting for him minus a finger! Who cares! I certainly don't.

May 27, 2007, 11:52 a.m.Our Gov introduced a Law a few years ago "Directive 54".Basicly it states that an employer who knows of a situation or that certain equipment is faulty and does nothing to fix the problem then the employer can be charged with a criminal offense. This has totaly freaked out the oil patch as every thing can be construed as dangerous. But our Liberal Gov. which over the years has cut funds and has not upgraded our army then sent them to Afgan. This is a criminal offense under this law but it was pooh pawed. The new conservative gov is currently upgrading our forces so that we don't need to hitch hike to Afgan and are seemingly listening to what is needed and trying.

May 27, 2007, 1 p.m.This is how the military is really valued. They are used as a piece of meat for the corporate interests.
Just like the immigration police who are sent to jail for doing their job. Is it no wonder people lack morals and conviction. Take care of number 1 no one else will.

May 27, 2007, 1:56 p.m.Given the opportunity, this soldier's target would have gleefully cut off fingers, heads, etc....from a soldier, probably on video, hailing Allah, and return home to beat his wife, and then be hailed as a hero by his people.
Meanwhile...back in the West, we send soldiers to kill our enemies and then prosecute them when they don't do it "nicely'?
WTF?

May 27, 2007, 2:38 p.m.Great story and the postings all have the right attitude, the military is no place for PC leftist lawyers with their hands on some top brass leaders puppet strings.
On the shooters side and having shot targets at extreme distances, the Canadian snipers success at over 1 1/2 miles is just flat out amazing. These guys likely were taking out at least 50 Jihaddies per day. Too bad Bin Laden was not one of them.

May 27, 2007, 2:57 p.m.Operation Northwoods, remember?
The mainstream media is now acknowledging "Operation Northwoods", a (declassified) secret plan to kill innocent civilians in the US: The objective was to "create a useful wave of indignation", blame Fidel Castro for the civilian deaths, with a view to building a pretext to invade Cuba.
This sounds familiar does it not? Was Operation Northwoods a dress rehearsal? On September 11, 2001, "a mass casuality producing event". as it is described in military-intelligence circles was used to galvanize public support for a war on Afghanistan. That war, which was already in the advanced planning stages was launched less than a month after 9/11, on October 7, 2001.
While 911 researchers have extensively analysed the logic of Operation Northwoods, and its role in the construction of the "Global War on Terrorism" the mainstream media has largely remained silent.

May 27, 2007, 3:58 p.m.I am a combat veteran, I've seen the horror of war and I know the chaos that is created by the fear and knowing you can't depend on your leaders to stand by you after you do your job. I have no problem with Canadian military, they were always dependable and trust worthy. After becoming a history professor I can say without any doubt. Our officers do not win wars, and most of them do not die in war. It's the enlisted men, who takes over and wins the war but is soon forgotten and the officers take credit for it except when they want to lay blame on somebody. . It seems like we have turned against Canada for Mexico and South America all the immigrants coming into this country illegally and becoming citizens. . Mr. Crockett, and all those other heroes at the Alamo we have now lost America to the immigrants from Mexico. will find a home. Sometimes change is not good, and history shows us too much diversely will destroy.

May 27, 2007, 5:06 p.m.The word hero in this case does have the same meaning as we usually think of, a fireman risk his life to save others. Snipers risk their lives to save others the only difference is in the job they have to do to save others. As I enjoy target shooting I will say that the record shot is impressive.

May 27, 2007, 7:48 p.m.Jaydee, hope you don't mind me putting this here, it seems the appropriate place to me this weekend, and I hope you know I think this goes for all the Canadian troops also even though the writer talks about Americans, but I think it goes for Canadians, Brits, Aussies, and many others also.
Memorial Day
by Michelle R. Christman
As we stand here looking
At the flags upon these graves
Know these flags represent
A few of the true American brave
They fought for their Country
As man has through all of time
Except that these soldiers lying here
Fought for your country and mine
As we all are gathered here
To pay them our respect
Let's pass this word to others
It's what they would expect
I'm sure that they would do it
If it were me or you
To show we did not die in vein
But for the red, white and blue.
Let's pass on to our children
And to those who never knew
What these soldiers died for
It's the least we can do...
