Really funny exchange between dad and his son. Boy is too smart, dad is trying, dad is not quite up to (impossible) task. Pretty classic.

fyi--i heard this exchange myself. at a coffee shop with bunch of friends, and the father & son at table next to us. the kid was a riot, non stop. when we heard this one we all kind of smiled, and i started scribbling notes. the father looked over and said something like, i'd copy this down too, if i didn't get it every day. after they finished with this conversation they went on to talk about the red sox, how according to the kid david ortiz is absolutely positively the best hitter in the history of the world. way better than babe ruth, hank aaron and ted williams combined. that's when dad asked for the check....

So what kind of war is the best kind? I like "tug of war" myself. At least then the fun of playing is getting dirty.

The mind of a child just goes to place's we adults never think to look.

Oh come now! I don't, for even a minute, believe this is a real account. I've worked with kids for years, and they have often come out with some absolutely brilliant conversations and questions. This one, however is so transparently constructed that I have great difficulty crediting it. Arguendo, if it is real, the parent, if at all informed, could have pointed out that not all war is deadly or evil. For instance a war on poverty, or a war on discrimination, or a war against child abuse. I would think that the father of such a sophisticated child would have had the abiltiy to deal better than he did.

I kinda remember my dad always using mom as ready, & convenient alibi for whatever question he could'nt, or would'nt answer.

So cute. The other overheard conversations are funny, too. Especially the one on talking.
