May 28, 2007, 12:30 a.m.The wrath of unions? If anybody aside from the wealthiest 1/2 of 1% of Americans thinks this is a good idea, I have to wonder what motivates them.
In the past 12 years, the wealthiest 1/2 of 1% of Americans have doubled their holdings of the nations total wealth. Must they have ALL wealth before these elites can rest secure in their new banana republic called America?
Think you Mr. Cheney. GW Bush doesn't have the mental acumen to even understand what's going on here. He has to spend all his time learning to recite the Republican talking points they give him. And even with all that practice, he still has trouble getting out one coherent sentence after the next.

May 28, 2007, 2:03 a.m.Veterans have no voice. They did once, but no more. We no longer have a media with a conscience. We have a media of fluff, owners with agendas, and reporters more interested in their ratings than what their moral responsibilities are.

May 28, 2007, 7:26 a.m.We should do it like Rome use to do it. Call up citizen soldiers and make them pay for their gear. Then the rich people can bear the burden.

May 28, 2007, 8:34 a.m.It is obvous this President does not care at all about the troops, and if anyone ever needed proof of that fact they need look no further than his signature on this bill. Bush has no concern for anybody but his wealthy friends, the "have-mores".
Welcome to Amerika.

May 28, 2007, 9:39 a.m.How immoral can this administration be. He only cares about the wealthy. Then you have 'people' like SlapALib who support this. They make me sick.

May 28, 2007, 11:53 a.m.Troop Pay Raise That Bush May Veto Amounts To $6/Month To Average Soldier In Iraq
As ThinkProgress noted yesterday, President Bush has threatened to veto a House defense bill over a provision that raises the pay for U.S. soldiers by 3.5 percent, instead of the 3 percent preferred by the White House.
Last night on MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Todd Bowers â;; an Iraq war veteran and director of government affairs for the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America â;; broke down the White House's position in dollar terms. Bowers explained that the difference between a 3 percent and 3.5 percent pay raise is the difference of six bucks a month for the average servicemember. Bowers said:

May 28, 2007, 12:20 p.m.The white house continues to spout their SPIN about "support the troops", and that you can't do that if you are against his "war".
Yet, how does the white house support the troops?
By refusing them a decent wage.
By not giving them decent health care or decent ACCESS to decent health care if they manage to come home alive.
By making them wait 1-2 years for a disability hearing and then only offering them 20% of what they deserve.
By not treating thousands of soldiers with PTSD, many who have already committed suicide.
By allowing soldiers to go bankrupt while waiting years for processing of their disability and/or medical claims.
By allowing thousands of veterans go homeless in this country every single day.
By sending soldiers back to Iraq and Afghanistan that have NO business going because of their injuries, both physical and mental.
By denying veterans the education benefits and bonuses that they were promised when they enlisted.

May 28, 2007, 12:52 p.m.This is a clear example of Bush's priorities. He wants to give more tax cuts for the wealthy and wants to deny a .5 percent extra that translates to $6 dollars/month to our troops. Well, hell, they'll get 3 %. That's enough. Where would they spend the extra moola anyways, in Baghdad?

May 28, 2007, 1:48 p.m.This is typical politcian speak! They say one thing from one side of their mouth and another from the other side. It is so sad how we treat the rich. These are people who can afford to buy mansions, cars, expensive clothes and yet they keep giving them tax breaks, and other perks that the average person has to pay for. I am sorry there is something wrong with this picture!

May 28, 2007, 2:15 p.m.It never ceases to amaze me how tone-deaf Bush is. It's as if our troops only exist as an abstract concept in his world. I also don't understand why his cronies should pay less taxes, since all this warring is ostensibly for their benefit.
I don't think there's ever been a less inspiring figure occupying the Oval Office, yet what's really sad/scary is the field of candidates looking to take over when Bush finally steps down. A lot of people think we couldn't possibly do worse than Bush. I look at who's running and what they're saying and imagine that we could.

May 28, 2007, 2:50 p.m.I am not surprised that Bush would begrudge soldiers an extra $6.00 a month. He doesn't give a hoot about the American people only the have mores. Have you seen him where he is talking to a single mother, she is telling him that she works three jobs. He thinks that is terrific! He doesn't want any of us to have a good prosperous life. Only the elite rich. Why that $6.00 x all the soldiers means one less home in the Hamptons for a couple of his friends

May 28, 2007, 3:27 p.m.The UnAmerican, UnPatriotic and UnCaring people are the repugs! While they call the Liberals all those names, this is proof positive that they care nothing about anyone but the rich. Just send more troops to their death, it makes them more money. Their loyalties lie in their bank accounts.
He just put another nail in the repug coffin! Good for Bush!!

May 28, 2007, 4:16 p.m.Don't deny their pay raise, do what they do in the corporations and lay off 2/3 of them!
We don't need the bloated military we have now except to spread the "Pax Americana" by bomb and gun.
If the military were doing what it should, i.e., protecting our borders, most military personnel could go home to their families.
