"Gas station operators who offer a cash discount must clearly display both prices to the motorist on all advertisements, including road signs. With the price of gasoline at current levels, consumers need to know whether the posted price is for cash purchases only and, if higher, the price for a credit card purchase,"

yeah....I've noticed this price difference at a couple gas stations. I try to avoid any gas station that offers different prices depending on how you pay.

      :o)

Ugh, Arco kept hitting me with this on my trip to LA last weekend. Prices are bad enough without having to feel tricked as well.

NJ gas is about the cheapest in the country I save about$10 a tankful over NY - only prob is it costs me about $15 in gas & tolls to get there

As far as credit cards go however, even if they don't charge extra most gas co cards charge between 20-25% interest and the gas card is the last one you usually pay off so a $3.50 gallon of gas can be really costing you $4.37

Good stuff to know. Two level pricing hearkens back to the time when credit cards weren't so ubiquitous, the theory being to make the wealthy pay for the privilege of charging a purchase. It sort of disappeared for a while. But recently I've seen it come back even here in the Midwest.

I can still remember being told by an NJ station employee (in the late 1970's) that they didn't accept any credit card because that was what the NYC Mafia used to launder their money. How this might work is still beyond my comprehension.

"Open Market" is just another excuse to rip off the consumer. All of this with so called christain leadership.

What ever happened to morals and ethics. Stores raise prices whenever they have a sale, price gouging, bait and switch, no refunds?

You bought it tough? Even drug and gun dealers give better courtesy and prices.
