May 31, 2007, 11:31 p.m.This is truly great news. If more did this things would calm down enough that we wouldnt be losing so many troops. Unfortunatly after hearing bush's Korea vision for Iraq, it still wont mean troops coming home.

May 31, 2007, 11:41 p.m.Neo I am surprised! This is something newsworthy!
This may finally be the straw that breaks the camel's back. We can only hope that the people begin to realize that they need to take ownership of their own country, and not wait for us to take and hold their hand. Hopefully they are able to become self-sufficient, to allow a peaceful, orderly removal of the troops there.
Please.

May 31, 2007, 11:41 p.m.So, it appears the surge is showing more promising signs every day - and it isn't even at full strength. There's an old saying: The enemey of my enemy is my friend.
It appears the few Iraqis who opposed U.S. and coalition forces not so long ago now recognize their true enemy is al-Qaeda. It also illustrates why Harry Reid was such a fool to declare the war lost in recent months.
It's no surprise to me this happens shortly after full troop funding with no withdrawal timeline is approved. The funding bill with no withdrawal showed the freedom-loving Iraqi people that we will not abandon them and will stick it out.
Hopefully, things fully can be turned over to the Iraqi goverment in a reasonable amount of time, and then we can start withdrawing some troops. I'd be happy to see a permament U.S. base in Iraq, though.

June 1, 2007, 12:27 a.m.Seems like the Sunnis are growing weary of bloodshed. I hope this episode can lead to all factions coming together and cooperating to bring peace and stability to Iraq.
I'm cautiously hopeful.

June 1, 2007, 1:26 a.m.Maybe just maybe, they are starting to think about what would really happen when we leave.
They may look on America as the lesser of 2 evils.
I can't stand Harry Reid. But maybe his cut and run talk scared them. Sometimes even cowards serve a purpose.

June 1, 2007, 3:30 a.m.I'd like to think that this was the result of the surge, but I suspect that this is the result of the democratic congresses demands for a drop dead date.
I suspect that the realization that there could be a democratic president, combined with a demo congress, has forced some of the Iraqi's to understand that they can't count on us to carry the load forever. If the Sunni's don't keep the Shi'ites in line, they will be stuck with them.

June 1, 2007, 9:09 a.m.One wonders whether the Sunni are trying to get al Qaeda out so they fight the Shia for control of Iraq, but for now, this is good news.

June 1, 2007, 11:46 a.m.I will say about this on funny-sarcastic way :
"We are going to make this up but we screwed up so much that we can't do worser ,so it's time to go . No,everything is fine now . People have very happy life there , just maybe some neighbors killing each other - nothing important . They live so happy that every day bombs flying around them - sure ,that's for fun . No , al-Qaeda wont making mess out here - they promise that .And that fight with them it's silly thought - they can't beat us .So ,none of our solder are killed - that was puppets ! Yes ,we gonna back soon home from well done invasion ! Or we not going back home ?? We love to be here - It's so lovely place here ..."
Filling bad or mad because this ?
It's nice to chat here far away from the 'hot spot' and thinking everything is just fine or it will be 'fine ' ....
I think agony start now for all .

June 1, 2007, 2:30 p.m.Al-qaeda really doesn't have a lot of support from the muslim worlds, the group just says they do but the muslim world doesn't do much of an effort to say they aren't sympathetic to al-qaeda.

June 1, 2007, 3:11 p.m.let us not forget that al qaeda wasn't in iraq before we invaded. saddam rejected OBL's overtures in the 90's. let us also not forget that bush was warned before invading iraq that iraq would become a terrorist training camp and a recruitment vehicle for al qaeda and he decided to invade anyways. this would not have happened if saddam was still in power. i'm not saying that iraq would be better off with saddam still in power, but the US most likely would be. the current adminsitration ahs also made quite a mess of things over there.
how about holding them accountable?
Spy Agencies Say Iraq War Hurting U.S. Terror Fight
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/ar...
U.S. intelligence agencies warned the Bush administration before the Iraq war that Al Qaeda and Iran could exploit an invasion to extend their sway in the region.

June 1, 2007, 3:34 p.m.This is not news. It is just some of you could not see what was happening from that dark place you were. If you continue to see win-lose and not win-win you will continue to miss out on amazing opportunities of being an us-us person instead of an us-them person. i.e. Let us not forget that Kurds and Shia had no human rights before we invaded. Let us not forget that there was no running water throughout Mosul before we invaded. Let us not forget that Chevron did not have a biodiesel refinery in Galveston before we invaded. Open your eyes and see the progress. The Sunnis are on board. Why aren't you?
