Posted by: Searchbeam 2 years, 6 months ago

Church says it made a mistake, wants to move her husband's body from the grave and relocate it elsewhere. Mrs. Maureen Wolcott says she is not going to let that happen! She got the permission of the church fair and square, and now they cannot come back on that permission!

We have seen the power of the Church! Now, here comes the evidence of coming back on promises. Moral standards include keeping your promises!

    What would Jesus think?

    Peace and Blessings!

Maybe beacause I'm still on my first cup of coffee, but I read this story and can't see the major issue. There are many legitimate reasons to move the deceased from one burial spot to another, suh as building roads and development, returning loved ones buried on foreign soil, acts of nature, and so on, and it happens often enough that it isn't ordinarily viewed as something exceptional. For that matter, what about deceased who are cremated and kept in urns? These remains move with the family and no one thinks anything about it.

I know it's not the ideal situation for either the parish or the family, but is it extraordinary?

Help me understand - what am I missing?

It seems to me the church is being very careful with this entire situation, trying to fix an error without being disrespectful. I think they are trying their best to remedy the situation, but seem to be running into this snag.

I am curious to know how the deceased was placed in the wrong place in the first place. Did the not see the yellow tape cordoning off the cemetery plot? maybe they did it at night (like some Halloween show).

I don't know, but it is unfortunate.

It's sad. She thought she was getting the plot for her husband, herself and their family. The church goofed. How did that happen. If it wasn't part of the cemetary how did they manage to get through the funeral before anyone realized?

Leave the guy where he is. What difference does it make?

I get a kick out of the church offering to move Charlie without charge. It was their mistake, so who did they think would be paying for it, the widow?

This is a tough one. What is the Church's plan for that area of land in the future, that they can't just make it part of the adjacent graveyard? Obviously, over time they'll have to extend their grave sites anyway. I'm not going to say that a 76 year old woman, who spent more than half a century with Charlie is being unreasonable. It's obviously very important to her that her husband not be moved once he's laid to rest, and being as it's so close to the time she lost him, I think the church needs to come up with something that addresses her feelings more than their problem.

what guarantees does the widow have that her husband's gravesite won't be crowded in the future?

What guarantee is there for anyone that their body will remain where they pay to have it put? With the future of progress nothing is sacred.

It seems that the local priest in charge of that Church agreed to sell these plots, AND performed the funeral services with appropriate respect. The Church sold the plots, but now the Diocese wants to come back on their word!

In the name of Jesus, too!

The Catholic Church, steeped in eons of corrupt beau racy, seems now to leave no store unturned in finding ways to prove that they only care about power and money. Priests abusing children with a wink and a nod from the Church Fathers. Paying for these abuses by selling off land donated by parishioners to be a church in perpetuity. Very sad. What would Christ say?

Sacrilege! Very Christ-like for heathens and great promotion points for church recruitment!
