Memphis area drought erases mark set during Dust Bowl years »

The March-May period - the informal "spring" chronicled by meteorologists - brought Memphis a mere 6.73 inches of rain. That total shattered a 76-year-old record for dryness - eclipsing the Dust Bowl years and the drought of 1988 - and is only about 40% of the normal precipitation level for what should be the wettest months of the year.
