The plot, which never got past the planning stages, did not involve airplanes or passenger terminals, according to the two officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because details of the arrests had not yet been announced.

I wonder what the circumstances were that let it be known to authorities if it never got past the planning stage

Considering the fact that we could have been hit with an attack that could have cost America many more lives than the WTT, I am sure the lefties are crying about us being so tight on security now.

        -

"Our freedom is being taken away by a communist Monster"!! Waa Waa!

        -

Its the same crap that goes around every single time a president gets ready to leave office. When are you freakin babies ever going to grow up and realize that we are under attack, and it is time to act appropriately.

        -

Is it better to have a hundred thousand lives snuffed out, so that the rest of us can have complete freedom? Or would you consent to having your luggage spot checked at the airport? What are you willing to give to help pmake the world a better place?

        -

I know several libs, and they are only concerned with what our government will give to them. A real American contributes more than they take.

10 years in the the planning. A Guyana government official and 4 Muslim men. Glad they discovered this plot and was able to stop it. I hope these radical cooks will get the full punishment of the law.

I find it interesting this news breaks 1 day after security allows a toxic person with TB through the system. Don't ya just love the diversion tactics used in America today? For God's sake they were in the discussing stage, nothing substantial.

Hate to be a downer to all you alarmists out there, but...

I've done a bit of aviation firefighting... ok, alot of it... and they'd have a hell of a time getting jet fuel to go up by attacking a pipeline and they'd unlikely cause more damage than could be fixed in a week or two. And just so ya know, they'd unlikely kill anyone outside of the detonation area of the explosives they used to start the fire. Note I said fire. Localized damage. They apparently understood jet fuel combustion about as well as the dipstick reporters and govt types calling this "chilling" or "catastrophic"... can we say "fear mongering"? Christ folks, chill out. Jet fuel has to be vaporized to even -burn- well. It's barely more than kerosene. -no- gigantic explosions. Life isn't like a Jerry Bruckheimer film. ;)

The Feds must have been embarrassed to bring these guy in, its sound like they busted those terrorists Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton.

Its only these guy are so far afield from the center of what we think we should be watching. They probably all have bets on the Stanley Cup game at their work.

                      Very stupid plots.

A real plot must include WMD or Bio Terror.

That TB scare is a good example.

If they are suicide bombers they might as well get TB and ride the subways in rush hour coughing till they die.

I find most of you people to be complete and utter idiots. What would you have said if the fed had caught the arab farm animals in the plotting stage of blowing up the WTC?

Think about how far-fetched that sounds. 19 primitive a-holes with the barest minimum twin-engine prop experience planning to take over widebodies with box cutters that won't get through secuirty - then just fly themselves right on through the whole ATC system and into buildings. Never happen! How stupid can they be?

a burning jet fuel dump would be a huge problem and very hard to deal with--they pretty much just ley them burn and try to not let it spread--theres no real way to put it out--every so often one of these gets lit from lightning..the last one i think was about 12 years ago in sewaren--we just watched it burn for a couple days--the real problem though is that in those tank farms are also LNG tanks and expansion silos..thats liquid natural gas for you liberals..and if any of those were to get lit--bar the door molly--the conservative damage estimates are truly catastrophic--kind of on a nuclear scale--and theres dozens of them--so for all you head in the sand left wingnuts who dont think people dont want to kill us and these guys were just a bunch of bumbling fools--even idiots can get lucky--and these idiots meant us real harm

I find the indifference that some of you have expressed to be startling.

While it does appear that they were not fully ready to carry out their plan successfully, they were indeed plotting to do so.

At what point do you justify arresting them?AFTER they attempt to blow up an airport?

I'm by no means an "alarmist", but I certainly don't understand why anyone would think that 4 guys plotting to blow up anything, is "no big deal"???

I see my comment "violated our terms of use". Interesting. Let's see if it passes a second time.

You indifferent people make me want to puke. Trivialize this. Come up with all kinds of reasons why "safeguards" would have kept anything bad from happening. Make fun of what they were up to. I wonder how you'd all respond to the same scenario expressed a few years ago. How far-fetched would the following sound?

A bunch of third-worlders, a handful of whom could barely fly twin engine prop craft, plotted to hijack several widebody airliners. As weapons, they planned to use box cutters that would never have passed through airport security in the first place. Then, against all odds, they planned to fly the airliners right on through the entire ATC system and crash them into buildings.

Wonder what I said that got my comment yanked? The truth? Probably

I am also saddened, but not surprised, at the level of Liberal Rhetoric that is found on some of the posts in this thread. Perhaps, one day the Libs will grow up and adopt a grown up attitude towards Life, Liberty, Freedom, God and Country. But I am sure they will just continue to listen to their college professors that never have to dael with real life.

I will try to keep this short and sweet, and I don't care how many of you like what I have to say and how many don't. 9/11 was in the planing stage at some point until it happened! There has to be a planing stage before it is carried out and for those of you that think it will never happen again I want some of what ever you are on. So sad to think that we have become so passive and peace loving that we can't see the threat even when it's looking at us face to face. I for one am glad to hear that this PLOT did not go that far and for those of you that want to minimize this PLOT because it was not well thought out you better thank God because that is what the "PLANING STAGE" means!

Like I said before, at some point 9/11 was still in the "planing stage" and up until the point the first plane hit it was the planing stage, only after that was it considered "mission complete". When a school kid tells his friends he is going to bring a gun to school people who have heard this are encouraged to "tell someone" so his "plans" can be intercepted. How is this different?

Here is the problem I have with this story: it is not a story, it is a public relations press release for the benefit of an inept administration, so Bush et al can all pat themselves on the back and proclaim what a great job "they" are doing in the "War on Terror", which will be promptly spun into a whole cloth line of reasoning why we must stay in Iraq forever and ever, once again disregarding that Iraq didn't attack us, that the Iraq war is fomenting more terrorists here and abroad, and that every moment we focus on Iraq is a moment for an actual threat to come to fruition.

Also, similar threats were thwarted under Bill Clinton many times. And the press response was what? Zzzzzz...but under Bush, it's ten HUT! as the press obligingly reports what is the culmination of a routine FBI investigation, what is essentially the FBI DOING ITS JOB.
