STONERS
June 2, 2007, 2:02 p.m.Once again this month, an pyramid style e-mail is circulating the Internet urging drivers to avoid pumping gas at one particular gas station, rather than on one particular day.

June 2, 2007, 2:10 p.m.Idiotic - these so-called gas boycotts dont work because no one actually boycotts the usage of gasoline, they just shift when they buy it. Simple freaking economics.

June 2, 2007, 2:45 p.m.The best thing to do in my opinion is to cut way back on buying gas or its not going to go down period...

June 2, 2007, 5:30 p.m.Gasoline prices went down 1 cent today. Not a HUGE drop, but it's the first movement in the right direction in months. Is it doe to the boycott? I doubt it, but just maybe it is.

June 2, 2007, 6:09 p.m.More public announcement is needed to get the word out on these boycotts. Not every body has CNN. The G-8 Summit is heating up with protests.

June 2, 2007, 7:06 p.m.Good looking company (PCZ).
If you can knock it down a ways, I'll buy some.

June 2, 2007, 7:11 p.m.Check out the chart on this company. Something happened in Feb/Mar 2006 that kicked it from $15 to $50 in just a week.

June 2, 2007, 9 p.m.This seems like a better strategy then the "boycott all petrol retailers on a specific day" tactic. I'm on board this time. I can get my gas from plenty of others. For Americans, I don't know what Petro Can's American subsidiaries are. I'll try and find that one out.

June 2, 2007, 9:50 p.m.How much is gas in Canada? Is the price as high all over the world as Canada and the USA pay?
I bet India and China receive cheap gas.

June 2, 2007, 10:09 p.m.I live a little ways from canada (utah) and I have seen a similar circulation boycotting exxon or chevron companys. There is one flaw in this plan, there is a popular gas station chain in my area and some the western united states called Maverick. There slogan for keeping there gas prices as low as possible is to buy from the lowest price suppliers possible hence citgo, chevron, exxon, ect, ect, and probably Petro Canada if the price is right. As mentioned earlier the gas stations are owned by individual retailers and if you avoid specific stations you will them put them out of business. There fore there will be fewer gas stations to buy from hence higher demand from those stations hence higher prices in the long run because you just put the competition out of buisness. If this sounds like something familiar how do you like your copy of microsoft windows?

June 2, 2007, 10:54 p.m.Just goes to show you that Americans are not the only people who prove H.L. Mencken and P.T. Barnum right every single day. The only way to reduce the price of gas is to consume less of it. Anyone else here find it amusing how many people don't have the basic concepts of economics down? Limited supply, high demand yields what -- oh, higher prices.
Dumbasses.

FirePro911
June 2, 2007, 11:06 p.m.Only thing is, there is no limited supply.
The only thing that drives gas prices up is greed, nothing but greed. The oil companies are getting richer and richer on greed.
They can say limited supply, they can say Summer is here, they can say a holiday is approaching, but no matter what they say, no matter what reason or excuse they give us, it is simply greed.
Supply and demand my ass, it's supply and greed.
Greedy bastards

June 2, 2007, 11:13 p.m.Someone askes what the price of gas was up here. Today it is $1.199 for a litre, if you make the conversion to U.S. gallons and put in the exchange it is about $4.46 American for a U.S. gallon. Wow that sucks.
-

eugenegerard
June 2, 2007, 11:21 p.m.The simple economics is that 4 oil companies own most oil resources. They have a fixed monopoly situation and work between each other to maintain their power. We are chattle to be used by them.

June 2, 2007, 11:25 p.m.It's been two days and it's working. It forced Petro Canada to lower their prices 5 cents a liter or 20 cents a gallon in our area (B.C.). Whatever station is targeted has to react by lowering their prices and then all other stations have to follow suit. it does make sense!

FRICKANDFRACK
June 2, 2007, 11:37 p.m.So instead of selling to a petro canada gas station they simply sell the surplus inventory to the "competition" whose demand will increase because you aren't going to stop buying just shift demand.Even in my business we have no problem with the idea of selling to the competition, regardless of outlet as long as we sell our product to someone we still make money.

June 2, 2007, 11:41 p.m.Starting today my friends and I agreed NOT buy any gas from ExxonMObile. Imagine if 100 million Americans stop buying their gas. JUST DO IT!

June 2, 2007, 11:55 p.m.I wish some times people would try a little harder to under stand how fuel or gas is distributed, for example there is two refineries in Saskatchewan, Canada one in Regina (co-op upgrader) and one in Lloydminster (husky pet) these two refineries supply all the fuel or at least 95% of all gas in saskatchewan and a lot into North Dakota and Montana. In doing this it is a trade off for the Co-op stations in places where the co-op and husky do not have any refineries like Manitoba and Ontario where there are co-op stations and husky stations. so where there is a shell or petro canada refinery they supply those stations that need in return for being supplied where they have no refineries. All Gas Stations and oil companies do this and have for decades. the only people getting hurt is the small guy that is trying to make a living selling gas at some street corner, and He is making the least on that gas that is high priced.
-

GBM636
June 2, 2007, 11:59 p.m.for example of how it works a Person living along the North Dakota Border can follow a tanker from his canadian refinery and buy the fuel in the USA for less that he can from the station across the street from the refinery. That is why these goof ball plans will never work. People should really learn about the system before making plans as I see it. As well the products from most refineries are purchased up in futures and by contracts long before they are ever produced.

my_opinion
June 3, 2007, 12:07 a.m.want prices to go down... it's not going to happen and we only have ourselves to blame. Many of us are still in denial. Wake up people we have been using up our resources like there is no tomorrow. Instead of being upset with ourselves for not understanding how finite our time on Earth really is designed to be, we now blame the oil companies because by golly oil is not infinite in supply.
Good Luck!

June 3, 2007, 12:34 a.m.Gas prices began to drop during the Labor Day weekend (here in the U.S. at least). Only a general decline in gasoline usage will make the price drop permanently over time. The difference in usage between Summer and Winter is 7% on the average. However the average cost of gasoline goes down much more than that during the winter months.

Ding ding ding ding ding! This is, more or less, completely correct.
